Subject speaks for itself. Are any of you finding any smoking deals?
-
Not really, just seen the price at Happ was much higher than the one at WG. So purchased mine from WG. Admit I did't do much searching tho.
-
Cheapest place so far for a new one is Americangaminginc.com -450 plus shipping (mine came to 497 total).
-
$375 delivered ($325 + $50) - Directly from WG it's a refurbished one, just got it Thursday. I just emailed them & asked about refurbs - it's even the Universal mount one.
-
Anyone know what kind of warranty WG offers on their refurb monitors?

Hey did you guys know that according to the WG website American Gaming is a subsidiary of WG?

Yep - they distribute WG stuff. They have more than a few warehouses I believe...
Also, I know of one other person on these boards who drove to chicago from cleveland a month or so ago to pick up a refurbished one, but haven't heard from him yet. I would be wary of buying the used ones, who knows what's been done to it...buyer beware so to speak :P
-
The d9200's arnt that old anyway , so why would there be troubles with them ?
now if it was a standard 15khz monitor then it may have alot of work and may have been even rejuivenated before buying ( ouch )

Yep, I am that guy who drove to Chicago to get my D9200. If this thing is refurbished, I want to see a "new" one. Are they gold plated or soemthing??? Seriously, my "refurb" is sparkling clean, no scratches on the monitor, the yoke, chassis, and boards look all brand frigging new. Not even any dust on the boards!!!
Hooked it up (using WG supplied VGA cable and power cable), made a few adjustments, and it looks great. No burn-in, no scratches, no problems. For $325 out the door (since I picked it up, no S&H) I really cannot complain at all. Definitely soemthing worth looking into.
Now........I just got to build my cab so I can take this 27" monster off my kitchen table!!! <lol>

Are these refurbs available for pickup anywhere else in the United States (Please say Las Vegas; please say Las Vegas). I would jump on this deal for that price (even though I'd have to cancel my order for two Act-labs TV guns and switch to only one USB gun :'( )

Heh, mine was dipped in gold and came with a big bow on top :) Seriously, that's excellent it is in good condition. That is a pretty good price (i just like 'new' stuff). Did they tell you what they 'refurbished' on it?
The D9200 is one seriously cool monitor, I was playing HalfLife on it earlier today and at 800x600 it looked incredible.

I just was in contact with Fran at WG to inquire about a refurb. They do still have 'em for $325 + $55 Shipping. Only thing that has me nervous is that she says they come with a 30day warranty only. Thats alot of money to pay and only have a 1 month warranty. Anyone know what the warranty is on a new unit?
-
This is really really tempting, but I just can't decide. Is the extra 11 months of peace of mind (warranty) worth $125?
There's an American Gaming in Vegas which is close enough to me, but I just called them and they don't have any refurbs? :'(
I wonder if I could talk Wells Gardner into shipping one out to them in one of their regular shipments for me to pick up without paying for shipping.

you never know !
I say get that warrenty...I honestly didnt get the question because you didnt quote anything.
the new d9200 comes with a year warrenty and the refurb comes with a month warrenty..after that you are on your own.
I would personally buy the new one ! :)
-
Sorry. $125 is the price diff between the refurb and new one. So essentially the warranty costs $125.
-
I'd have bought a refurb if I knew they were around. I paid $450 and about $50 shipping for mine. I had it for around 6 weeks and then it died after about 10 hours of use. They sent me out a replacement chassis which fixed the problem. Boy was I relieved about that, I was worried about having to pay shipping to get the entire monitor back to them for repair but the chassis ships for < $20.
I would suspect that like a lot of electronics, if something is going to go wrong, it will usually go wrong immediately. Worst case, if something does go wrong, you can always buy a replacement chassis for about $200. They might even give you some $$$ for your old core, that'd be a real good question to ask them.

And just think...had you bought the refurb and the same thing happened you'd be screwed. Refurbs have only a 4-week warranty.

Even knowing that, I would still go with a refurb. A new chassis is $200 and the price difference is $125. So I'd be saving $125 and gambling that I might have to end up paying $75 more than if I just bought a brand new one. And that's assuming WG won't give you some credit for your bad chassis (who knows, they might).
It's just a preference. It's a gamble I would have taken.

can confirm WG still has refurbished monitors, took less that a week to get mine! (but only IL to MO). Monitor looks great, has sticker that says manufactuered in May, 2001, so just 2 years old. So far, works.

The term "referbished" has been thrown around a LOT as of late. It can really mean out of box... maybe a return... maybe it was droped out of a 3rd floor window... you never know.
Just me, but I wouldn't buy ANYTHING (no even a microwave or something) that only gets a 30 day warrenty! WITH A PRODUCT THAT EXPENSIVE... oh man... All I can say is I wouldn't do it...
It is almost like buying a refurbed HD with no warranty (do they even try to refurb Hds?
-
after a long chat with the lady at american gaming about the referbs, the reason they look to be in such good shape in that their referbs are simply monitors that when tested had minor problems that are easily fixable like a bad cap etc... they fix the problems then resell them as used, so in essense they are brand new. unfortunately they only have a 30 day warrenty...don't really care personally...I'm happy with my purchase and would deffinately make the same choice if I had to do it all over. also there was alot of talk about american gaming, but I didn't notice a link so I figured I'd post it
http://www.americangaminginc.com/americangaming/catalog.cfm?dest=Index
also for what it was worth I found their shipping to be reasonable about $50 from illinois to arizona and their customer service was excellent
-
FYI it appears american gaming has upped the price on the D9200 to $485. Not a huge jump, but considerable. It certainly stretches the gap between new and refurb.

Any time a manufacturer has to repair a monitor, it must be considered a refurb. Basically, a refurbed monitor is the same as a new one. If someone dropped it, and it damaged the chassis and the tube, they would prolly just send it back to be completely destroyed and rebuilt. Most refurbed are garunteed "like new". This means if somone purchases a monitor, and the board (chassis) goes bad, and the company warrenties it, sends a new monitor and takes the old one in its steed, then the company will replace the board (chassis) and sell it as refurb. This means in essence, a refurb still has "new parts". But, they lose money when a monitor needs to be warrentied (esspecially by abuse, the most common cause of monitor failure) so why would they offer a 6 or 12 month warrenty on a refurbed monitor, when its quite possible that after that time, somone could have accidently scratched the glass, ran it past the refresh limit, dropped it, etc and that person get a new monitor for their old one after them already losing money on it.
In other words, the only reason they have a one month warrenty is so that they dont lose more money, you are already getting a great deal, why throw in an extended warrenty when you are getting a like new quality monitor at a cheaper price, that would be bad business sence.
The refurbs are just as good as teh new ones, there is no /more/ a risk of it kicking the bucket, as there is with a brand new one, but if you arent paying full price, why give a full warrenty?
Ok, im ranbling... ill shut up now... ;)
