Title: Rotating monitor's display
Post by: FunWithFire on October 30, 2007, 11:42:24 pm
I am looking to put together a vertical display bartop cab. So I started putting the pc together for it. I just put an e-GeForce FX 5200 video card with 128mb in and fired it up. The card came with a control panel program that will rotate the display for you. The problem is that when the display is rotated 90 degrees, the video gets a little choppy. Nothing serious, but you can tell when playing a game like Arkanoid. The paddle just doesn't move as smooth. You can even notice when doing things like dragging a window, or opening a menu.
Is there another, better, option for rotating the display? Should I just run Windows horizontal and then just have Mala run vertically? Can that even be done?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I am not sure about mame for windows, but xmame for linux has an option where it will rotate cocktail games automatically. It also has options that will simply rotate any game.

That would probably work out for the MAME games, but I was hoping to have some VP games on the bartop as well, and I don't know if Mala will rotate those. Would a higher memory card help? Possibly go with a 256 over a 128?

I switched out the video card for a different 128 card I had laying around, and this one works fine while rotated. I guess there is a difference between brands.
