I've been looking for a good hockey game for the Sabrecade -- Gretsky Hockey is probably years away from being playable. Then I thought, BRILLILANT! I can just load up my old PC NHL games. This worked until I tried to play them.
Is there any way to configure games like NHL 2002 to work with arcade controls? I don't see any way to have P1 and P2 both use the keyboard. And aside from that, i can't even find a way to customize the keys for just one player.
Yes, I searched on this before I posted, all I found was some old posts with people saying they couldn't figure it out.

Well, I actually have a Quasicade panel and play sports games on it all the time. It's definitely not the ideal panel for many games, but NHL and NFL games work really well. I personally enjoy NHL 06, ESPN NHL 2K5, NHL Hitz 2003, and NHL Hitz Pro as far as hockey games go.
As for MAME, have you tried Hat Trick (really fun, basic hockey game), Blades of Steel, Hit the Ice, and 2 on 2 Open Ice Challenge?
On Fusion (Genesis Emulator) I play NHL 94.
On the NES emulator I play Nintendo Ice Hockey and Blades of Steel
Also, Project 64 (N64 emulator) runs Gretsky Hockey and Olympic Hockey really well, and you can configure the controls however you want. I would imagine that the old EA NHL hockey games for the n64 would work good as well.
(I even configured Project 64 to play Robotron 64 with twin joysticks!)
Sorry if I'm babbling on, hope some of this helps! ::)

The GroovyGameGear (http://groovygamegear.com) GPWiz is recognized as a USB "Joypad". Add another and it is recognized as another joypad. You can add as many as your OS can handle. Great way to play PC games with real arcade controls.

Dude your feeling my pain, I have been trying to get NHL 06 to work for some time. PPJOY and JOYtoKEy are programs that are supposed to acheive this but I can get it to work correctly, basically this program creates a virtual joystick which can be mapped to your encoder or keyboard, I can get that far then when I fire up NHL06 the menu scrolls and scrolls, maybe the virtual joy isn't calibrated correctly,

Yeah.. I use PPJoy myself. Haven't used it for NHL though. I haven't had problems with most games using it.

Try PPJOY with NHL06 and see what happens

I use joytokey and it works well...I'm pretty sure it would work with any PC game that has keyboard input.

I would if I had it.
