Title: Spy Hunter SideArt...what's the deal?
Post by: whammoed on October 29, 2007, 09:05:17 am
I'm sure someone else has noticed.  What's the deal with the striping
that goes around the edge of the cabinet?  It stops and there is a
slightly different color of white where it looks like the stripes
should continue.  I'm thinking of making some new sideart for the Spy
Hunter I just purchased and it will feel really odd to duplicate that
part of the art...

Oh good, so I'm not going crazy (got a Spy Hunter this weekend). I kept looking at the stripes thinking it had been vandalized or something, but the edges were too clean to have not come from the factory like that. Fortunately, all the painted art seems to be in pretty decent shape, only the stickers are damaged.

I have a theory that there was a problem with the screen that was to be used for that portion of the artwork, so they just didn't use it for the production of the artwork. :blah:

So the center part of yours are stickers?  Mine seem to be silk screened like the rest of the art.  Unfortunately I have cabinet damage and the art is peeling and ripped.  Also at some point someone put some sort of pin striping around the edge of the cab to try and make it look nicer.  I'm currently leaning towards using the cab as a template and rebuilding completely.

Well, that theory is crap.  I just noticed the cockpit version exhibits the same sort of incomplete striping on the art.  I guess it was designed that way, but it sure looks odd.

If I understand what part you're talking about.

Perhaps it's some sort of attempt to give the art some sort of floating 3D look? Kind of like a drop shadow.

That does look kind of weird. But if you stand back far enough you get this kind of effect.

The sit down, on the same side, and yours on the opposite side, has the striping on the "wrong" side so it looks even weirder.
