Title: need help with soldering to gamepad!

hi, iam making a arcade stick for my xbox 360, iam onto the soldering of the PCB but i cant get the solder to stick. i have herd that you have to scrap away the rubber from the solder points- is this true? also does any one have any tips for soldering onto PCbs?

You need to carefully scrape off the black stuff until you see shiny copper.  Then clean the area with rubbing alcohol.

You can use a wire wheel on you dremel or very carefully,  a tiny flat head screw driver.
