Title: Anyone else have a PDF file try to launch?
Post by: GAtekwriter on October 27, 2007, 08:22:04 pm
Every time I visit byoac.com Adobe Acrobat autoruns and tries to open some PDF file (or other file type)... not sure why this is happening, but it only happens on this site.  Anyone else seeing this?

That on the front page only, or elsewhere?

Try and open these news items directly and tell me if any of them trigger PDF launch?

FWIW I get a "QuickTimeCheck Scriptable Object" warning on all links, but no PDF or other Adobe launches.

Same issue on #1, 2, 3, and 5... #4 in the list did not.

Correction:  Now, all 5 sample pages are trying to open Adobe Acrobat.  Yesterday, the fourth one in the list didn't do it, but I ran through them again a moment ago and all 5 are behaving identically.  Very unusual.

Thanks, Saint.

Some of those are embedded videos, some are static html pages essentially. The only thing that changes on them is the google ads. I don't know what's happening, I'm guessing something on your system has been associated with Adobe Acrobat Reader that isn't normally? If other people were getting the pop up I'd be more inclined to think something strange had gone on with the web page code. I don't know. This isn't the first time this has come up, but it's always been isolated incidents for one or two people. I've never figured it out :(

Well, it's not a major issue - just a small annoyance.  If anyone know of a program that runs in the background that will tell you what services/apps/files are trying to be opened when you visit a webpage, please let me know as that would be helpful in tracking down the culprit.  Otherwise, I'll just deal...
