Title: NFL Blitz Joysticks? What are they?

G'day guys

I just acquired a NFL Blitz machine that has 2 j/s marked "midway 03-8409.1"

they are ??? 360 degree j/s and I need to look at replacing them.

Any idea what these are?

From what I understand, they are 49 way joysticks.   Though the cab can be modified for 8 way...as I have been told.   Check the bios.

maws only refers to 8 way

and on closer look these have optical sensors so 49 way makes sence

That's partially because mame doesn't emulate the 49-way mode in the modern 49-way games yet.  The original game has a dipswitch to switch between 8-way and 49-way mode.  However even if mame emulated 49-way mode, maws can list only one input type per game ATM, which is the other reason (they're looking at fixing this, though).

Yes, those are midway 49-way joysticks. I have sold several of them on here before. Why exactly do they need replacing?

If you are positive they are broken, they do pop up on ebay every once in a while.

And happs and other resellers carry it.  If your sticks work, you can hook them to PCs (IOW you can use then if you're maming the cab).


OT, did you get the I-40 board that the sticks connect to, and relays to the main boards?  If yes and you're replacing with 8-ways, can I buy the I-40 board off you?

If your 49 ways are not working and you're thinking of tossing them, I'd be happy to pay you for shipping plus a little for your trouble to ship the possibly dead ones to me.  I've got Blitz, but only 8-way sticks, and I always seem to miss the good deals on 49-ways.
