Title: Replacement speakers
Post by: J_K_M_A_N on October 24, 2007, 10:32:04 pm
I have some speakers that I got out of a garbage 15 years ago and the subs have fallen apart. Does anyone have a recommendation for some cheap temp replacements? I am looking to go as cheap as possible for now because I am going to buy some new ones in a couple years after we move. I found this site (http://www.partsexpress.com) and they aren't too bad but I thought I would check here first. What I need are 2 12" subs. I already replaced the 4" and 1" tweeter. I was actually thinking of getting these (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=290-367&scqty=2). Any ideas? I don't crank my stereo so I just need ok (read; cheap!) for now.

PartsExpress is probably your best bet; but also check out MadiSound and their guide to replacing woofers:

Well, after looking at the site a little longer, I am wondering if I need a subwoofer or just a woofer. The speaker setup I have is the 12" + 4" + 1". Any ideas? Can I use either? I have a powered sub so I am thinking I could get by with just woofers for these speakers. Any ideas?

Maybe just start checking the garbage again for another set?   ;D

You could try Freecycle as well, lots of people have old speakers around with garbage cabinets but the speakers themselves are good.

Good idea. I was going to go to the pawn shop tonight also. If I don't see anything there I will probably just buy the 12" woofers since they are cheaper.
