Title: Mala Tree Question *Fixed thanks to Organic Jerk!*
Post by: RXII on October 23, 2007, 05:41:09 pm
Hi Guys,
I have been playing around with the Mala tree side of things and currently have
Arcade
Jukebox
Visual Pinball
on the root menu. If I go to jukebox (I have Wincab software installed not the mala one) it then goes to

wincab jukebox

then when I select that the jukebox comes up. Is there a way I can select jukebox from the root menu and it goes straight into the program???
Similar thing with Visual Pinball, when I select visual pinball from the root menu it then goes to my gamelist. I only have one gamelist for VP....can it go straight into that gamelist?? I know what I want is there I just need to get my head around what does what in the configuration.
Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Simon.

P.S I have checked the WIKI!  :dunno

For Virtual Pinball: When in the tree editor, click the "Add Gamelist" button when the Main Meu is selected.  Then you can rename the node, select the layout/emulator/gamelist, and you're done...

For the Jukebox, I'm not sure that functionality is implemented into MaLa... as far as I've noticed, gamelists can't have menus in them, and menus can't have games listed in them...

Thanks for the reply, regarding the visual pinball that is what I have done and it works ok, but what I want to happen is that when I click on VP from the main menu I want it to bring up the complete gamelist straight away in front of me rather than me having to click the "all games" button again to get the list of games in front of me. Sorry its sort of confusing to try and explain. I also want the Wincab to fire up straight from the main menu. Thats the best I can explain it at this stage.....does it make sense??

So Main Menu -
Arcade (click on this and all my different gamelists come up)
Visual Pinball (click on this and all installed games come up)
Jukebox (click on this and Wincab executes straight away)

Thanks,

Simon.

Visual Pinball: It makes sense, but I'm not sure I'm communicating it clearly.  It sounds like you're clicking the "add menu" button instead of clicking the "add gamelist" button at the main menu.... because when you click the "add gamelist" button, it takes you Directly to Whatever gamelist you choose for Whatever emulator you choose.. See pic below.

Jukebox:  Again, I don't think this is possible within mala.  Software and roms are handled by mala the same way... they are all "objects" that would be contained with a "gamelist".  Gamelists are essentially files that contain a list of objects.  Menus, on the other hand, are basically an Interface means to browse "gamelists" or more menus.  As it stands, you cannot add an "object" directly to a "menu" without having it contained within a "gamelist".

Thanx Organic,  :notworthy:  I had the same problem as RX, but now its fixed.

I also wanted to do the jukebox thing that RX mentioned.  If you go to MaLa options -> Sounds and Music tab -> there is a Jukebox tab in there but don't know if it has anything to do with it. I'll play around with it when I have time.

thanx again.

Hi guys,

I took a screen grab of my setup (basic layout for testing) to show you I am pretty sure its setup as you said already. I just want to get rid of the "all games" screen and straight into the list itself.
Thanks,

Simon.

I'm not sure you're getting the difference between the screens we posted, which is that I have the gamelist set up AT the Main Menu.  You DON'T need to have the Virtual Pinball submenu at all...

In my screenshot you can see that the Sample gamelist I set up is at the TOP menu, where the gamelist you set up is UNDER a "Visual Pinball" submenu.... just don't use the submenu... that's all.

Use the same method you used to add the "All Games" gamelist to the Virtual Pinball submenu and do it for the MAIN menu... You will see that you can rename the gamelist node to whatever you wish and choose whatever gamelist from whatever emulator you want.

EDIT: I modified your screenshot to demonstrate.

As you can see here and in my original screenshot, I ONLY used the menu nodes when I had multiple gamelists of an emulator and I wanted people to be able to choose.  For emulators where I only had one gamelist, I didn't bother to create an unecessary new menu for them (which creates the extra step you don't want) , and just added the gamelist to the top menu with the name of the emulator.

Thank you SO MUCH for your patience with this, I feel like an idiot now that I look at your picture properly and read your post slowly. You are right I was adding a gamelist from visual pinball instead of the main menu. It works perfectly now, thank you so much.  :notworthy:
