Title: Perfect case for a visual pinball table ....
Post by: unclet on October 23, 2007, 01:04:23 pm
Imagine purchasing two big LCD monitors which are then mounted vertically in this case.   Then have a video card split the image from Visual Pinball into two display regions (one for each of the monitors).  I wonder if this would work.   Just seems like a neat project.

The idea for layout is good... but eh, not so hot on that cabinet.  You could build your own out of $50 in materials that would work far far better.

I must be a little confused.

Why would you mount the monitors vertically? If you went ahead, wouldn't you want to mount them horizontally?

Are you selecting this particular case because of the price or because of the space inside?

I'm kind of with ChadTower on this one. That case looks awful. It would take a lot of work to make it look nice and that's before you went with the mounting of the LCDs. Might as well build from scratch. Heck, you might as well go for broke, find an awesome deal on three LCDs somewhere and use one for the scoreboard portion.

I had assumed he meant horizontal and just got it wrong... otherwise it would just make no sense.

heh, I use to be the MAN at Rock-n-Bowl

They had it at the Mr. Gattis by my grandmas house and I would play all the time as a Kid.  I could get the 100 ticket pin pretty consistently, and almost always when it was the double bonus frames

It's an awesome idea...go for it man!  You can always tweak the design a bit and give it some kinda flare.

I think someday building virtual pins is gonna be hot. I've wanted to build one ever since I first tried VPmame and Future pinball.

Money and motivation are the only two things holding me back, in that order.  :D

Oh and it would absolutely work, it's been done.

Here is a great thread for this subject...

I meant "vertical" ..... having two monitors each turned vertically, one on the top and one of the bottom.  This would provide the display in the largest stretched vertical orientation you could get.

The first picture shows one monitor turned vertically.   The second pictures shows two monitors turned veritcally .... one on top of the other ..... which is what I think would be cool for a virtual pinball machine.

Turned vetically in that cabinet?

unclet, I think you have a great idea, but I agree with the others, build the cab from scratch.

I'm building a Digital Jukebox this Winter, but I've been thinking about a dedicated Pinball Cab later.
I too have Visual Pinball and Future Pinball installed on my MAME cab and thoruoghly enjoy playing them.

In fact, I was asking a similar line of questions for my existing cab upgrade.

If I could pick it up, I'd by the bowling cab and keep it as-is, he says it works great!!
