Anyone here have an XIR for their xbox? I am thinking of buying one and I am wondering if it is worth it. I know I should get off my fat ass and just turn it on but it would be nice. Just curious what people think of it.

I do not, but I have modded my power button for my arcade cabinet so the button on the front works as well as a button on the front of the arcade cabinet. The power button is just a standard pushbutton, so you can do whatever you want with it. Obviously it would be nice to use the XIR for compatibility with the remote, but if you don't mind another remote you could hook up one of those remote doorbells to your power button or something to that effect.
If you're jsut lazy and have the money to spare, go for it. =)

I have one, but I didn't get around to installing it for over a year after I bought it and when I finally did do the install I found that the molex end of a cable was defective and I have no idea how to crimp a new end on it. I may end up eventually soldering it or something. It worked really well at first, until the wires slipped out of the molex connector. Really irritating. I could likely write to the manufacturer (I don't even remember where I bought it) and get a new cable, but the cable is already soldered to the underside of the motherboard and I'm really not that inclined to pull my motherboard in order to get to the back.
It really does work great (especially now that it uses USB -- mine uses serial and finding a cable that would work was a PITA), and I'm sure that my experience is not the norm. If I had more time or more experience with soldering and/or molex connectors it would probably not be a problem, but . . . c'est la vie. I'd recommend it. Mine is defective, but there's no reason to think yours would be.

sickdimension and pablot of sickmods.net are the makers and they do work great as well as their other products like xerc.
I have a breather on mine where the lights breath on/off with a dim effect while the console is off it lives lol.

Well, I ordered 3 this weekend. One for me and two for my brothers. I will report back on what I think of it.

I've got a XIRC installed in one of my xboxs.
I have it set up so that the "display" button at the top of the controller turns the power on with a normal press and off with a long press. The long press is just that, LONG. I kinda wish it was a bit shorter and I'm looking forward to someday having a universal remote programed with a dedicated power button so I don't have to use the long press feature.
Also, I don't have the fading LEDs feature on so nobody knows that it's even there unless they get really close to my xbox and look under the front lip. That's not to say it isn't a cool feature though, if you like that sort of thing... I prefer my consoles to look fairly stock. With the exception of my blue xbox jewel and the blue LED in the xbox and dreamcast...

mine is translucent blue with over 60 leds in the console alone so it was a must lol.

Crash, why don't you just change the timings on it? You can set the button presses to any amount of time you like can't you?
