Has anyone found a good review of this monitor, specifically relating to its use in emulation, screenshots, etc? I can't seem to find anything. I'm a cabinet-building newbie trying to decide whether to go with a 21" PC monitor, or an arcade monitor w/ArcadeVGA card, and it sounds like this is the monitor to use according to many posts here. If anyone can answer any of these questions I'd be most appreciative:
- Are there any benefits to using the D9200 (as opposed to a normal low res arcade monitor) with ArcadeVGA card *other* than the non-interlaced 640x480 and 800x600 modes?
- What are the closest/recommended arcade monitor alternatives in a slightly smaller (say 25") size? Are older games like pacman going to look ridiculous on a 27" screen?
- People have mentioned the poor performance of arcade monitors with vector games. Does that mean poor compared to the original vector monitor? Or poor compared to a PC monitor. I'm pretty satisfied with the vector appearance on a PC monitor.
- How would oddly sized games like Toobin (384x512) look? I assume you would have the ArcadeVGA use its 512x512 mode?
TIA,
Andy

Nice little review http://easymamecab.mameworld.net/html/d9200.htm
Benefits are it can run 15 Khz, 25 khz, and 31 khz instead of just 15 like a normal arcade monitor. More authentic picture than a PC monitor or a tV. Works great with the act labs light gun.
Pacman looks awesome on the D9200 but it runs at 352 x 288 instead of the native 224 x 288. vector games look pretty good on the D9200, no replacement for a true vector monitor though.
Toobin runs at 448 x 512 in Mame32 for me. This is the closest supported resolution available here with the arcade VGA card, and there are black borders all the way around .
If you use advance mame you can get almost all the games to run at the native resolutions using this monitor, so people say. I'd highly recommend it. Only drawback I know of is price.

Just outta the blue Q. Won't standing so close to a 27'' behomoth hurt your eyes? I plan to get one as well and this popped up.

I'm building a showcase style cab for mine. The control panel will be 3-4 feet away from the monitor

Thanks for the info Veto.

That is probably my main concern too. I'm frankly surprised at all the people on these boards who seem to be obsessed with perfect video emulation, but don't have a problem playing joust on a 27" monitor, hehe. So is Wells Gardner planning on a smaller version of the D9200? I think that would be much better. Unless you are building a cabinet like Veto, I think it's too big (you'd get a neck ache trying to follow pacman through the side tunnels).
So with arcade monitors, vector games are still playable? Someone mentioned that if you want to play vector games on your cab, stay away from arcade monitors. Are they better or worse than (or the same as) vector games on a PC monitor?
Thanks,
Andy

Tempest looks better to me on the D9200 than it did on the 19" flat panel LCD I was using before.
Not sure if WG will release a smaller D9200. they have a 33". That was a bit too large for my liking. The 27" looks great. Still a biggun at 92 lbs though.

Actually, with a 27" monitor mounted horizontally, those 2 vertical games you mentioned would display at their original 19" size.

Good point.

Try playing Robotron one a 27" monitor sometime. Dave & Buster's has a 27" Ultracade, and my Robotron scores on that are usually about a fourth of what I can get a home. I attribute it equally to the huge screen and the cruddy $7.99 happ fighter sticks in it.

I've seen that ultracade i think. Also, aren't the joysticks about 4 feet apart?
