Title: P3 controls P1 as well? How to fix?

I just modified my setup to use a USB gamepad
as P3... one thing I noticed was that if
no one is at the P1 controls, the gamepad controls
the P1 character as well.  Any way around this?
I enabled joystick = 1 in the mame.ini file
and and using mame .106

Do I have to re-TAB and re-setup the P1 controls
inside of MAME?

You got it.  Joy 1 defaults to player 1, and things don't get un-mapped from whatever they're already mapped to when you map them to something else.
