Title: What to cover my cabinet with?
Post by: andybooth28 on May 05, 2003, 06:27:45 am
I have almost finsihed my first project, but am now stuck.

Everyones cabinets I see are covered and coloured. What are you using to cover them?
I am UK based and assume most of you are USA. I went to the DIY shop and brought some fablon sticky back plastic, but this doesn't seem to cover well and is far to thin.

I wanted some sort of textured sheet plastic.

Also, seen some with side art, do you get these printed?

My cabinet is a cocktail type. Based on Kyle, what ever his name, Ms pacman plans. His is a lovely yellow and black colour.

Thanks for any help offered.

Regards
Andy

You can try Wilson Arts laminate (http://www.wilsonart.com/laminate/consumer/products/index.asp)

Or sticky vinyl.  Happ sells it in a variety of ugly colors, but they also carry plain black which looks nice.

You have a couple of choices in the UK.

Concentrate on the control panel and marquee and paint the rest of the cabinet - use 2/3 coats of semi-gloss black paint. Use a company like http://www.photoartistry.co.uk/  who will print out your artwork nicely.

Get some formica from B&Q or see http://www.formica-europe.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=home and glue it on the sides and control panel - your cabinet might end up looking like a kitchen worktop though !!

Note that http://www.emdkay.net/  will post their side and marquee art to the UK for a reasonable fee and they have some nice stuff.

What is you control panel setup like?
