with this new DOT spinner, thinking about adding a joystick for some of my favorites tron and zaxxon. But I don't understand, do they use an analog joystick like found on a pci, or a 8-way joystick with microswitches?
also, tron and zaxxon need one trigger, but if I remember DOT needs a second on joystick for "block", any recommendations?
thanks,

You might want to check this out: http://www.oscarcontrols.com/projects/triggerstick.shtml
Wingman stick hacked to an 8-way....WingMan has 3 buttons on it.
I plan on doing this some day. Got a wingman warrior stick on ebay for $7.

Zaxxon has an 8-Way, but I think Tron has a 4-way. Most sticks like that have more than one button on them. Someone here just got a brand new one on ebay for $3 + shipping.
You can also build one of your own using a standard 8-way arcade stick, and a PC flight stick that has that same handle. You basically put the two together. I believe OSCAR has pictures of that on his site (I have my handle and base, but I haven't put them together yet).

Zaxxon, Tron, DOT, Xenophobe, Gorf all use 8-way joysticks. Some used just the trigger, some used 1 or 2 additional buttons.

Tron (and presumably DOT) used an 8-way, but with a very large (small?) actuator, making it difficult to hit the diagonals, therefore the light-cycle part seemed like it was using a 4-way.

Yup. The Tron is a sorta-8-way stick. :) The stick that i use for Tron and DoT is a hacked 8 way with a trigger stick handle on top. It works GREAT for DoT and works well for Tron except for the light cycle game. It's virtually impossible to play that portion of the game with a normal 8 way stick because the bike will constantly zig-zag.

Holy smokes, I think the Tron joystick is a candidate for a FAQ...
Search for the other threads discussing the Tron joystick. It is an 8-way leaf stick with a diagonal restrictor. Oscar has pictures of the red restrictor on his site.
I just got a Xenophobe stick from eBay (It was on a Tron CP I purchase, I was pissed :( when I got it... lol).
I'm considering trying to modify the stick because it looks like I could rotate the red restrictor and redrill the holes so that it is diagonally positioned like the original Tron stick. The modification wouldn't really hurt anything if it didn't work, so I'll probably try it when I get some time.
Oh, and as TH said, the purpose of this setup (the diagonal restrictor and the large actuator) is to soften the diagonals.
I totally agree BJ, if you go with the DOT spinner, you might as well get the stick!

I have 2 super Zaxxon joysticks for sale
if anybody is intrested in purchasing them email me at dnsax@yahoo.com

It must be me, but I have had no problems playing the light cycle phase of Tron with my 8-way super.
I'm currently waiting for Happ to ship me the parts to convert my 8-way Supers into 8-way top-fire supers. This will make other parts of Tron easier to play, not to mention Battle Zone.

Thanks for all the good info folks . . .
now if I can just get a cool blue translucent handle!
