Title: Donkey Kong Jr restoration
Post by: shilmover on October 15, 2007, 12:31:03 am
Hi all,

I have the chance to pick up a DKJr cab.  It was converted to a 1 Slot NeoGeo.  The cabinet is in very good shape, control panel is for Neo Geo (so will need replacing), no Marquee or artwork.  Power Supply is there as the monitor (but need a cap kit).  So really aside from the cab, PS, monitor it has nothing.

I am thinking of picking this up and restoring it to donate to my Son's school auction.

$125.  Good deal?  Bad deal?

Good deal for a 1 slot Neo Geo, yes.

It'll cost a buttload to convert it just for an auction.  I'd buy it, make it the prettiest Neo Geo you ever saw and sell it that way.

I have a 4 slot Neo-Geo...  more interested in the DKJr cab.  To clarify, the 1 slot is not included in the $125 price above.  Just the cab, monitor, powersupply.

Not worried about what this will cost to restore... Its for an auction (that goes to my kid's education).

If you do decide to restore it here are a couple useful eBay auctions (none are mine):

If I had an empty DK cab I wanted to fix up, I'd do one of these:

I saw that, but its expensive, no?  like $370.

What about the dual DKJr/DK boards.  anyone had any experiences with that?

What I'm saying is since you don't plan on keeping this anyway, and since it's already set up for Neo Geo, make the best of it.  Sure, you can restore it to DKJr, but it'll cost a buttload and I guarantee it won't make that up at an auction, unless you're lucky.

Unless it's a learning experience, then go for broke.  I'd much rather see a DKJr than a Neo Geo.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback...  I am definitely going to use this as a learning experience...

One thing that someone suggested is that I donate the Cab to the auction as a 1 year "loan".  That way, I get it back after a year.   ;D

Got the cab yesterday for $100.  It is in much, much better shape then I thought.  No water damage.  Pics will be posted shortly.

Original monitor is in there, but looks like it was mounted horizontally.  The original 4 holes (on each side) for the horizontal mount are there.  Any one know how easy/hard it is to rotate?

Also looks like the wiring harness is intact as i the powersupply, etc.  There are two boards attached on the side (they are small and have the 2 Nintendo connectors attached to them (any one know what those are?).  I will post pics.
