Title: Samsung 753DF with echos
Post by: hw45 on May 04, 2003, 08:26:51 pm
Hi

That monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 753DF) started after about 5 month of use to show up to 4 echos especially behind dark letters on bright background. It is still under warranty. Is it a reason to return or is there a simple solution?
Thank you for answers in advance

Sounds like a warranty repair to me.  I don't remember seeing any adjustment that is accessable that would cure what you are describing.

That is actually pretty common, and a lot of people don't notice if it is really faint.

You may be able to minimize or remove the effect with mild adjustments of brightness, contrast, resolution, and refresh rate.

Thank you for your answers.
I tried already every adjustment. And to minimize the refresh rate I cannot see as solution (doesn't even remove the problem). I am also afraid that it is a warranty repair. I have a second monitor, same model, and that one is ok (it is even older than the other one). I changed already monitors and it was the same thing.

Not sure why it would do this after 5 months, but it almost sounds like a cable issue.  I have seen this type of effect when using long cable runs and or cheap, poorly shielded cable.

Does your monitor have the cable hardwired (I'm guessing it does)?

Are you using an extension cable?

Hi RandyT

I checked the cables of both Monitors (both the same model), and the other cable is thicker (i guess better shielded). Maybe that failure was already from beginning, but not so bad as now. And no, I am not using any extension cables.

So much for the easy fixes :)

It's odd that the 2 units would have different cables if they are the same model though.  Are they hardwired or can they be removed?  If they can be removed, try swapping them.

If it is the cable, a ferrite ring might help (you know, those things on monitor cables that look like magnets but aren't magnetic :) ).  The only way to know would be to try one.  If it already has one, another probably won't help much.

Of course it may be something else altogether.  If it's annoying and under warranty, definitely send it back.

Thank you very much for your very helpful replies.  :)
One model is from Feb. 2002 and the bad one from Feb. 2003. They even have different base (the foot of one doesn't fit on the other one). So Samsung changed the production and spared everywhere (unfortunately on the wrong place). And unfortunately the cable cannot be removed - you cannot even open the case, or maybe only with special tools they have. There is already a ferrite ring close to the video card plug and I couldn't even place it without splicing the cable.
I guess it's a warranty case  >:(
