Hmmm... any ideas? I chedcked the box to boot at windows start-up but it's not working...
-
hmmm.. not sure why its not working...
a workaround would be: create a shortcut to your mala.exe... then drag that shortcut into your startup folder. I am assuming you are running XP?

To do that mala makes an entry into the windows registry so maybe it's a permissions issue. I would take Edge's tip :)

Where's my start-up folder? I made the shortcut and it's on the desktop...
-
Put the shortcut into "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"

Off topic, but my MALA starts up twice when Windows starts, you have to exit out of the first one to get into the other one, I had the jukebox set to play and the was a weird echo with the same song playing twice in the background.

I fixed it. The problem is related to rotating the desktop. I am using a program called "iRotate" because my monitor is vertical and I was getting tired of leaning my head to one side while doing computer setup stuff. Ctl+Alt+ any arrow button rotates the display in that direction. The MaLa automatic start-up does not work with my desktop rotated but once I switched it back everything worked fine. I now use the "Rotate Mame with Mala" option checked and I switch the orientation of the gamelist in Mala. It's no big deal - any time I have to do maintenance I just need to rotate the desktop first.
Also, with the desktop rotated the GUI does not fill the entire screen when Mala is launched anyway so I have to keep everything horizontal and rotate Mala and Mame to accomodate my vertical setup.

Yeah, I have a vertical monitor too. I gave up on rotation software. It's OK as you say for doing maintenance (just basic windows stuff) , but Running Mame and FE sometimes some things don't work (I guess becuase the rotation software is using resources that mame or mala want)

At I Guess you either
1) Use the mala option for it to start with windows OR
2) Put a shortcut to mala in the windows folder OR
3) Have MaLa as the shell so windows explorer never loads (advanced- see other posts)
But only one of these

Mine crashes when I check the start up box. If I check the box, as soon as I click OK, I get an error and a crash. I'm just getting my cabinet together and I have about 10000 issues right now, so it is not high up on the priority list. :burgerking:

What version of windows are you using.
That check box edits the windows registry.
If you are having issues try on of the other methods I listed in a earlier post in this thread

It's Vista :( Loadman. It's the only pc I have that runs Vista, home or work and I'm not real familiar with it.
On a similar subject, I'm also trying to get cabvol to work. Do you know if that app will work with Vista? I was told I may have to install that in the start up menu, but I'm not entirely clear how to do it. It didn't seem to respond when I had it open on my screen.

Update: I installed the MaLa shortcut directly in the startup file, now it starts with the system. One more problem out of the way! However, I also installed cabvol and it is still unresponsive..unless I'm doing something wrong.
BTW, if anybody is looking for the startup file in Vista, they moved it. It is now under Start->All Programs->Startup.
