with this stick do you still need an ipac. it says you plug in your buttons to the stick and then to the pc and the buttons works as gamepad buttons.. is this recommended.

As long as your front-end/emulator can accept gamepad input (which most do), it works fine. So no, you don't need an iPac unless you have more than 8 inputs.

The U360's is basically a control pad for the PC but highly customizable since it can do 2 way, analog, 4 way, 8 way etc. It also has the ability to connect buttons directly to it and it will work the same way as pressing buttons on a PC control pad. The i-pac is different since it works like a second keyboard. The inputs are keyboard presses. The U360's buttons are control pad button presses. They're not the same.
You can go with the U360's button inputs but you'll need to buy the wiring harness for it. It doesn't come with it. And its only limited to 8 buttons. It has a shift option though.

You can plug in up to eight buttons, but you also have the ability to have a shift feature where you can hold one of the buttons down while hitting the others extra buttons similar to the ipac feature. If your only going with one stick, or you are having two u360's you can get away without the ipac. For example you could have 6 player b uttons a coin and player 1 button.

I have a 1 player CP and a U360 with no iPac. I wired 3 action buttons, pause, exit to FE, P1 start, P2 Start and Coin. Works like a charm!

I plan on having 1 stick with 6 buttons, a player 1 start and an coin button.. I will use the shift function to get back to the fe.
My project is going to be similar to Mr. Three's
