Title: Help Identify this joystick.
Post by: gatordad on October 07, 2007, 12:39:25 pm
4 of these were included in a auction I won, But I don't know what they are. I think they are sanwa but I am not sure. They feel pretty good and responsive with short throws but very clicky.

Looks similar to this one but yours is an apparent adjustable 4 way and 8 way while the one I linked to is only a 4 way. Nice find.  8)

very strange. almost looks like a knockoff of a sanwa. Is the mounting plate metal or plastic (hard to tell from the pic).

Anyway I do like the look of it alot.

That almost looks like an Ultimarc J-Stick but with a bigger balltop.

Its metal and it looks like the ball top screws in but I don't want to break it by trying to turn to hard.
There is also a crown with japanese text on the dust washer if that helps anyone..

I bought my buttons and sticks from the same guy (same auction as a matter of fact) and I got the sticks pictured in his auction.  The only markings I could find on my sticks are a LS inside of a diamond stamped in the metal mounting plate, and cast into the dust washer.

I emailed him after they arrived asking if he could get 4/8-way restrictors or at least tell me the brand of the stick, He replied that he couldn't get the restrictors and had no idea what brand the sticks were.

Mine aren't bad sticks.  the diagonals aren't that hard to get, and I've yet to have a problem with them on 4-way games.  They feel pretty good, but the only problem I've had was one simi-defective microswitch that I had to take apart and repair.

The buttons are good.  I cant tell any difference in feel between these or any other microswitch button out there.

They are a Chinese copy of the Sanwa 4 / 8 way switchable sticks.  I have several of them and find them to be a good stick for things like Pacman.  They are a perfectly serviceable in a domestic environment and a good deal cheaper than the Sanwa equivalent.  The Microswitches are not up to Cherry standards, in fact they are closer to the quality of switches provided by X-Arcade.  Change those out for Cherry's and you have a great stick.

Any Idea on where to get a 4 way restrictor for these?
These have the round restrictor installed.

Well I had some time and did some searching, It appears that this is a JLW-TM-8 clone made in china exactly as Fozzy stated.

It is a decent copy so I might give it a shot as my 4 way.

Does anyone (Fozzy) know where to get a 4 way restrictor for the sanwa JLW's?

I asked ponyboy and all he has was is the octagonal one.

Thanks
GD

I'd try LizardLick or AkihabaraShop.
