for my next trick, i want to build (well, to have built for me anyways) a MAME cab in a japanese big-screen sitdown, BUT i dont know if i can fit one through my door!
so - anybody know exact dimensions to the popular models - egret, candy, aerocity, etc?
thanks!

i have 0 clue what the dimensions are, but I'm pretty sure the entire cabinets are made of fiber glass, so to make em out of wood would be very difficult. Making em out of metal would weigh a ton. Ummm.. I hope someone has the specs though, cause I'd love to see those too for a future project ;D

I'd also like my second MAME box to be a sit-at cab. For this one, however, I don't think it's worth building. I've seen the cabs for < $500 with a 29" monitor. The only problem is shipping. They all seem to be on the west coast, and I'm on the east coast. Shipping is in the $150 range. Still not a bad deal.

ohh, no way i'd have the cab built! i meant built as in get a computer done up to go into a *bought* sit-at cab.
i just need the dimensions before i go buy one so i can know it'll fit in the door!

Ohhhhhh.... lol, yeah, alright. I thought you meant for building one. When I get a job and a lot more money, I'm most likely going to get a Sit-Down cab and J-Pac it up, and just plus the computer outside of the cabinet.
sorry for the misunderstanding

Just FYI, but I'm in Western NY and the "closest" arcade I've seen that has sit-down style cabs is up in Toronto. They were in EVERY arcade I went to, and there were a LOT of arcades! In any event, depending on where you live, it might be worth checking out as opposed to getting one shipped from the west coast, etc...

That is interesting. I've just checked online, and the only ones I've seen are on the west coast. I'll have to keep my eyes open. If you happen to see any for sale, please drop a line on the board. Thanks.

A couple thoughts....
I believe the sit-down cabinet is a Japanese phenomena, which probably explains why we don't see them here on the east coast.
My guess is that they stemmed from the Pachinko culture where people have become accustomed to sitting while playing.
A sit down cabinet can be made from wood, but they obviously wouldn't have the sleek, rounded corners of the fiberglass models. Would probably still look pretty cool, and I intend to design one when I get some time. Some starting dimensions sure would be nice though :).

I have a SNK Japanese 29" sit-down cab. It was from Arcadestuff on ebay. I had it shipped from California to Indiana for approx. $130
The cabinet that I have is all metal. It is very heavy.
Dimensions:
27 inches wide
53 inches tall
27 inches deep (not incuding control panel)

I'm purchasing a Japanese Aero-City sitdown cab this week or next for about $225 (they really aren't as expensive you think, shop around). I will definately measure it for a mame cab, thought I think it's unlikely that one would fit.

Out of curiosity, where did you find it?

A guy I know from ebay lives near me. He buys them in bulk, like anywhere from 5-30 machines at a time. Search for aero-city or japanese jamma or smth in about a week on ebay, he should have them up there for around $225-$300. I don't want to give out his email address because I'm not sure if he'd appreciate it.

do you happen to know which model it is? 27" wide would be perfect for my purposes.
thanks!
