Once you get 5 up, you're supposed to start using the creative alternatives, like DIK, COK and FUK.

LOL I hate that too.  Especially when I have a good game of Robotron and I'm not sure if the score is above the last of the 5.  Sometimes I wonder if life is worth living.   :laugh2:

I was but a wee lad when everyone was playing games like Dig Dug, Q*Bert and Ms. Pacman. Still remember seeing crowds of people watching others play. I was kind of young to comprehend the initials thing back then.  Plus I was too poor to play them so I never got to ad initials to an arcade. It wasn't until right before the Sf2 craze came along that I finally had money to play at arcades and found out about initials.

Around here... everyone used ASS. And we laughed every time.

Just like Fry does...

Oh, and you can get around the 5 high score limit if you want.

Just download this hack and burn a new rom.

We always tried to arrange initials so when you read down the list it made some sort of statement.

1st place:  EAT
2nd place: SHT
3rd place:  YOU
4th place:  ASS
5th place:  HOL

It always worked best on games that recently had the high score table recently reset.  We would just tank games to make sure we were inserting our words into the right place in the high score list.  Come to think of it, no wonder my mom didn't want me playing in the arcade all the time.

The best was doing something like that, then trying to casually walk out of the arcade before anyone knew it was you that did it.  As if you were going to get in real trouble for it.

Today, a kid can beat the screen with his fist, gouge his initials on the side with a screwdriver, then shout those same curse words right at the workers.  Progress!

The 5 max entries is annoying, but some games like Robotron and Joust let you put up to 20 characters if you get the high score. Also you can set up an attract mode message with 40 characters.

That reminds me of another William's annoyance.  You can't use an apostrophe in the attract mode message.  So you can't have "Welcome to Bob's Arcade" as the message.

Not a big deal to me.
I wouldn't want to have "Welcome to Bob's Arcade" anyway.

I second that. LOL

Well I wanted to have my kid's name there.  He still got a kick out of it, even without the apostrophe.  Go figure.

This annoys me. I want a screen filled with my initials. :(

This is exactly what my username "SEZ" was born out of.

It's on games all over Sydney - well it was until they'd turn the power off that night  ;D

Can't recall how many times I've gone backwards after "E" and hit "." instead of Z.

Seeing "SE." used to piss me off.  :(

'welcome to the arcade of bob'...?
