Title: Rotary Joystick help in MAME
Post by: XtraSmiley on September 30, 2007, 05:20:15 pm
OK, finally trying to set up my MAME machine.  Here is what I'm using:

Slikstik cab controller and front end
MAME32 119
AVGA PCI version
C2D PC with 2 gigs of RAM
Betson multisync monitor
and this rotary setup:

http://www.ultimarc.com/rotary.html

In text pad a [ or ] is easily created by turning the joystick one click, and in MAME a [ or ] easily turns the character in Ikari Warriors, but when I use the stick to do the turn sometimes it is not recognized for a few clicks, making it hard to play the game.  Why is it on the keyboard, one [ is a click, and in the game one [ is a turn but using the joystick does not register a click everytime?

Any help would be appreciated guys.  Thanks.

In each game (or maybe it can be global), try setting digital speed=0 and sensitivity=100, based on this thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=60720.msg607147#msg607147).

There was also an issue where the original rotary interface sent 8ms keypresses and behaved as you said.  See this thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=65270.msg656502#msg656502).  Test chips were sent out with 16, 24, and 32 ms keypresses, and the 24 and 32 worked fine.

I don't know if the boards were upgraded to 24 or 32 at some point in production, or if the chips are still available separately, but I would contact Andy Warne and see what you can find out.

HTH!!!!

Thanks a ton man, time to check out the settings and see if this is it.  If not I'll need to contact Andy to see if new chips are in there.

EDIT:  Changes the settings to 0 and 100% and still getting skips, so it must be my chip.  Andy if you see this post can you contact me about upgrading the chips somehow?  Thanks.

Probably better to E-mail Andy about it.

Did it, no reply yet.  I'm sure he's a busy guy, I'll wait a few days before sending another one.
