Is there anyway to speed up the scrolling in Mala, as when you have 500 games in a list it is painful scrolling through them.

Here is the wiki entry:
http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/MaLa_FAQ#List_scroll_too_slow
Also if you search this forum for the following you'll find a lot of discussion:
mala scrolling slow

I did a quick search, but after going through the first page I just posted... Didn't think about checking the wiki though. I appreciated the help.
Thanks,

Unfortunately, the tips in the Wiki don't help much. Like you said, it's still painfully slow. With Mala, my spinner at approximately 1/4 speed provides the same scrolling as the spinner at full speed. In other words, Mala isn't currently matching what the mouse/spinner does. I'm not sure why, but Mala does not increase it's speed to match the mouse. It does to a certain point (I estimate from 0 to 25%) but after that, it does not get any faster.

That is not quite right ::) . I can repeat the solution given on the Wiki on multiple machines using Joysticks or Mouse. I assume SgtSlaughter found this solution OK too? What I think you should have said was 'that does not help me much using my spinner'..Yeah?

As I said to you on another post I will investigate why you are having spinner problems. MaLa should be faster than that as I can spin my mouse and my list moves very fast.
I ordered the spinner but the frikken thing still has not arrived after a month. :banghead: (There is a story involving multiple mistakes by the distributor) . I am nearly at the point where I will 'Name and Shame them'. The e-mail trail I have shows how incompetent the handling has been and problems with their website (which they later admit to).

Oh, sorry, was he referring to the keyboard/joystick scrolling? If so, sorry. I was referring to mouse/spinner scrolling.

I'm just Cranky today... Where is my Spinner?? :banghead:

Oh crap, loadman has went off his meds again. :laugh2:

Hey SGT, yes that fixed my solution. I'm only currently using the keyboard right now though. I figure I'll get my software configured good and then I'll start my cabinet... but if you do figure out the spinner problem please post as it could help for future reference.
Thanks again.

I think you mean loadman. ;)

My guess: SlickStik?

I was just setting up MAME/MaLa on a mate's machine this weekend and did some comparison testing between it and my desktop machine.
Comparable CPU specs, RAM etc. MALa layout and settings and gamelists identical.
I hit the "down" key on both machines at the same time, and then waited 10 seconds. His reached a point about 80 games fewer than mine.
I was also having some strange system-wide crashes that seemed to be triggered by scrolling that gamelist (and a few other things around the system as well). Never did get to the bottom of the problem (suspect bad hardware) but I found that dropping the video acceleration one notch sped the gamelist scrolling up enormously. That's the acceleration under Control Panel » Display Properties » Settings » Advanced » Troubleshooting, by the way.
That first acceleration setting that fixed it is marked "disable cursor and bitmap accelerations".
It also fixed his crashing. Weird....

Thanks for posting these findings shock ;D

Yep... :banghead:
Finally got my spinner.
Mouse polling 25 and accelearion off
I managed to get the spinner at an acceptable level but bo where near as fast as holding don the down arrow on the keyboard or joystick Hmmmmm
More testing to do I guess.

I love using my 3" trackball for scrolling... THROOOOWWW IT!

Well, I'm revisiting the latest Mala (currently 1.74) many years later. Has there been any progress on the mouse/spinner/trackball top speed? I can't seem to get the mouse scrolling as fast as the keyboard.

Hi can you please post some logs in debug mode while you scroll fast on your keyboard then later scroll fast on your spinner?
-
Here you go. First few seconds are scrolling with spinner. Last few seconds are scrolling with keyboard. This is a clean install of 1.7.4.

I`ve tried it on another computer and produces the same error. I think the problem is due to my device Buetooh. Next day I will buy another bluetooth device and IŽll try to see if it works.
-
Ahh
I need to blow the dust of my test spinner.
I might have to add a special 'Spinner' mode
-
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it! I will send you a PayPal donation for your efforts.

I kid you not :'(
I don't have a spinner in my cab but I own one for testing i did a couple of years ago.
I just dug it out and it dosn't work anymore ... Ahhh!!! :banghead:
Where is the best place to buy another cheap spinner that is good enough for testing?
-
Just so you know, you'll get the same results using the mouse as you will using the spinner. Pushing the mouse fast does not increase the scroll speed. Well, it reaches a certain scroll speed and does not get any faster.
If you are going to buy a spinner, I'd recommend one with a flywheel like:
Ultimarc's Spintrak (http://www.ultimarc.com/SpinTrak.html) or GroovyGameGear's TurboTwist 2 (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=268) with the optional Energy Storage Cylinder.
I own 2 of the SlikStik Tornado spinners and love them. Maybe they are out of business now? Seems they are still being sold at places like Happ (http://na.suzohapp.com/amusement/gameparts/95265700.htm), DreamAuthentics.com (http://store.dreamauthentics.com/dreamstore/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=230), and RetroArcades (http://www.retroarcadeslive.com/webstore/webstore.asp?productid=SS%20SPINNER&category=84).

I have a slikstik on my original cab but have been using the ones from groovygamegear on about 4 builds over the last couple hears and just love them. A fantastic product and they fit in a button hole. Doesnt get much easier than that.

loadman,
Please don't forget about this. We would appreciate if you looked into it. You don't need a spinner to see the scroll speed issue.
Thanks in advance!
