Title: laptop power supply/surge protector in bartop question PLEASE MOVE TO MAIN FORUM
Post by: stephenp1983 on September 28, 2007, 04:13:53 pm
I have a bartop kit from mameroom, and I just wanted to make sure it would be ok to velcro the laptop power supply and the surge protector inside.  Will it cause too much heat and pose as a fire risk?  I am more concerned with placing velcro on the laptop power supply than anything.

Any thoughts.

Could a mod please move this to the main forum thanks.

The mameroom bartop has ventilation slots but no active fan afaik.   The worse thing about velcro and heat is that sooner or later the glue will give out.   I have velcroed a number of components in bartops but the velcro always lets go in a few years.   The more expensive the velcro the better the glue.   Industrial velcro is still hanging on.  Dollar store velcro is not worth using.

If you have a heat generating part and want it to stay in place use plumbers strapping.   It is a metal strap with holes in it found in the plumbing department of your home depot.   A couple of screws and your part is there to stay until you unscrew it.  It comes in stainless steel and galvanized. The galvanized is cheaper.
