Title: Golf Control panel
Post by: racehayes on May 02, 2003, 04:07:00 pm
What is the best layout for a good GOLF control panel.  Right now I have a two player SF layout to the left and right but left the entire center open for a 3"trackball.
1) How many buttons do you need?
2) What interface should I use
3) How do you acess the PC version of Golden Tee. Is it loaded in the front end or does it run seperately.
4) Do you have to have a keyboard to run the PC version or are PC versions more trouble than they are worth?
Thanks for all the help.

For trackball golf make sure there is nothing in the way of a good swing like spinners buttons or joysticks.  Also make sure the trackball is as far away from the monitor bezel as possible.  Nothing worse than slamming your hand into the cabinet.   Mame Golden Tee II uses three buttons and the trackball only.  (start, turn left, turn right)  PC version need L and R mouse buttons to do most of the stuff but entering names needs a keyboard and enter.  You're probably safe with 5 buttons.  You can use Emulaxian to launch GTG PC or just launch from the desktop.  GTG PC is much better looking than the mame versions and is worth it IMO.  Need a keyboard to enter name.

My informal testing seems to show that you need an absolute minimum of 8 inches between the cener of the ball and the monitor glass; 12 inches or more is much better.
