Title: Connecting Keywiz Max, buttons, E-stiks
Post by: layoric on September 23, 2007, 11:19:19 am
First arcade build. Just bought Keywiz Max, ultimarc E-stiks, and a bunch of happ pushbuttons.

I understand the directions from ggg about connecting the ground and all grounds daisy-chained together for the buttons, but here's where I'm lost:

The E-sticks have 4 diagonals each with 2 connections. One of each of the pairs of connections is silver, the other gold. Which is the ground on those pairs (are is there none)?  Also, since the connections are on diagonals, how can I figure which should be Up, down, left and right?

How can I determine which buttons to connect to which connections for the keywiz? I've never used MAME, and do have the keywiz pdf docs, but I do not know the information as to where P1 and P2 buttons should connect to on the keywiz.

I have 2 E-stiks, 1p and 2p buttons, 8 player buttons for each player, and several admin buttons.

Thanks,

Kirk

Hello Kirk,

here's the link for the spec sheet for the e-stick : http://www.ultimarc.com/controldiags.html (http://www.ultimarc.com/controldiags.html)

The E-sticks have 4 diagonals each with 2 connections. One of each of the pairs of connections is silver, the other gold. Which is the ground on those pairs (are is there none)?  Also, since the connections are on diagonals, how can I figure which should be Up, down, left and right?
each micro switch has 3 pins (see pic)
- gnd
- normally open
- normally close.
You have to identify the type of microswitch you have on your estick as shown on the pic.
Encoder will use the GND + Normally open pin.

To find out which microswitch is associated to which direction, you can simply hold the joystick in a direction and look under it to see which switch is activated...

How can I determine which buttons to connect to which connections for the keywiz? I've never used MAME, and do have the keywiz pdf docs, but I do not know the information as to where P1 and P2 buttons should connect to on the keywiz.
Gnd are daisy chained and connected to the "main gnd" (the same your encoder is using)
control pin are connected to inputs on your encoder.  There will be 4 connexion per joystick
(one for each direction).
The keywiz pdf http://groovygamegear.com/PDF/KEYWIZ_MAX.pdf (http://groovygamegear.com/PDF/KEYWIZ_MAX.pdf) Specify the keywiz pin layout.  for example, the P1 joystick will be connected to U/D/R/L.

As for the other buttons, joystick, coin door, etc... refer to the default mame setting http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/mameguide/mamecontrol.htm (http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/mameguide/mamecontrol.htm)

Hope this helps...

Jay,

Thanks for the info, but I already studied both those links before (from the vendors), and neither answered my questions. The one from mame was most helpful though. That with recent emails from the vendors will hopefully get me to a working board.
Good thing about this is that I'll just have to move connections around if things don't work right, not buttons or redo a board.
