Title: Convergence magnets loosing magnetic field ?
Post by: Level42 on September 23, 2007, 08:01:42 am
I was wondering following:

On lots of CRT's, the convergence is fine tuned with small magnets that are on a plastic strip with a sticky part at the end. Like the white "stripes" running from the center of the CRT on this picture:

My uncle mentioned that these can loose their magnetic fields over time, and thus causing misconvergence. We were talking about the vector monitor in my SW cockpit that show poor convergence on the left lower side mostly.

Any experienced people that can confirm this ? (Ken ?)

If so, how are these things officialy called and can I order them somewhere ?

Thanks !

Nope, they are not really magnets, They are small strips of "metal" on the end of the strip under the tape.

This disrupts the magnetic field created by the yoke current and offsets the red, green, blue as needed to correct corner convergence.

Roylco in Waterloo Ontario is who supplied Electrohome, Mitsubishi.... and in fact many others.

But it is unlikely they will supply you with a handful.

Where are you, e-mail me and I may be able to drop some in the mail.

Good Luck
