Title: Parts help ...
Post by: ratzz on September 22, 2007, 04:16:49 pm
Can some of you guys give me an opinion on the parts I am about to order from Ultimarc?

My cab is a one player style cab with a couple of admin buttons.

Have I got everything I need for my CP?

Thanks guys

If you want to save alot of wiring you could order the appropriate harness with connectors for the minipac.  Seems expensive but not when you add up the cost of connectors and wire and a header.

It's kind of hard to determine based on the info you gave.
Can you give a better description of what you are hoping to achieve?  What admin buttons, maybe a description of where the different buttons would go, etc.

Good choice on the vendor, BTW.

I would send your needs in an email to Andy at Ultimarc.  Tell him you will have a one player setup, the U360, how many admin buttons and anything else you are going to have on the CP.  Then he can tell you what you would need.  You may be able to drop the minipac all together.  The U360 allows button inputs and has a shift capability.  I might be able to handle all your button needs.

Well, I'm trying to cover as many bases as possible, if you see what I mean.

I'm hoping to build a cab that will be pretty versatile, and handle as many games as possible. I don't have the space for a trackball (although I would love one), so it's the basic buttons and stick.

As far as admin goes ... pause, exit, coin ... what else?

I agree about the harness and wiring, I think I will add them to the parts list as well.

I can't give you a list of games that I want to play, nor can I provide that to Andy. Things may change and I want to try and be able to cover that by the setup I have, but I'm hoping that the layout I have will be able to accommodate those things.

From the sounds of things you might be able to get by with just the U360 and your buttons.  How many buttons are you going to have for the joystick, 6 right?  Then you can have one button for the shift action.  This will change the action buttons to do a second input.  You can have the top row be your coin, pause & exit when the shift button is pressed.  Then your bottom row can be the P1 start, P2 start when the shift button is pressed.  In all you would need only 7 buttons total and the U360.

The choice in the end is yours.  We can only offer opinions and suggestions.

You should also read up on the the optional parts for the U360 (hard spring, longer handle, restrictor kit) by searching various posts for determining if these are things you may want for the joystick.  Otherwise, I'd go with six or seven buttons and a wiring harness.
