Title: Opinions on Ultimarc 360 WITH wiring harness for buttons!
Post by: hellothere123 on September 21, 2007, 04:57:28 pm
How is the responsiveness, etc when you hook up Happ buttons to the Ultimarc 360 joystick?

Or is it better to buy the Ultimarc 360's connected by USB, and then connect buttons to an Ipac2

Thanks!

I am using a U360 connected via USB with the wiring harness (no encoder) and it's great.  My CP has 7 buttons plus I wired up the coin door.

I just got done wiring mine up and its great.  If your just doing a single player control panel its perfect, because with the shift function you can have twice as many inputs anyway.

I have used both the u360 wiring harness which works great. I have also used an Ipac. The Ipac has keyboard functions and firmware that you can custom program to suit your needs, including a shift key that doubles your input power. The u360 wiring harness inputs to your system computer as joystick type input. It isn't a big deal to program within mame to desired key input, but with the ipac this is done by default. This makes the Ipac a little nicer IMO. However, it is a pretty minor inconvenience to save a few bucks.

Neither really works *better* than the other, as they both perform excellent and are reliable.

But does the U360's buttons accept input commands for the game's menu, reset and such? Cause I've had no luck getting those options to work on PC controllers and U360 is recognized as a Pc controller.

Use a keyboard for that stuff.   ;)

If you are just talking mame in game UI, you're fine with just the harness and remapping mame.  (In mame, you think the other way than you asked the question: for each input type, such as UI_Pause, you assign button/buttons, in UI_Pause case the default is key_P but you could change it to "joy1_button4+joy1_button5 or key_p".)

If you mean a front end or other games, depends on the application, but probably you'll need the keyboard as Dave said.
