Title: Xbox 360 - Has anyone here modchipped an Xbox360?
Post by: spystyle on September 21, 2007, 02:04:09 pm
Hello from Maine,

My local GameStop has 360's for $180 and I have my eye on "Battlefield" and "Gears of war".

I might buy one, but I'd like to store my expensive originals and only play backups  8) Backups that I did not simply download off the internet

So I've been reading about the firmware flashes but that seems like it could be corrupted pretty easily. I'd like a modchip that simply plays backups, nothing fancy as I don't intend to connect this console to the internet.

Have any of you heroes modded your 360? If so, what chip did you use and how tough was the install?

Thanks,
Craig

Is there even a mod chip available for it?  I'm at work, and can't google to find out.

I think there are a bunch, including cheap clones.

Here is one with a fancy website:

They have multiple ones for the DVD Drive that allow backups only, but it's not worth losing my Live account over...

I can dig it, the above chip claims to be stealthy so you don't lose your live account.

For me it's a little different, I don't game on consoles very much, and having cut my teeth on the Atari 2600 I still don't feel inclined to connect my consoles to the internet.

I have a computer that goes on the internet already! But that's a different discussion.  :blah:

Cheers,
Craig

Just your console gets banned, not your account.  So, technically, if you had 2 Xbox 360's, one modded, one for live play, you'd be golden!

OK, there are a bunch but they are well hidden.

Here are 6:

And here are two that only cost $24:

Compatible with HITACHI-LG "GDR-3120L" versions 46, 47, 58, & 59

Compatible with TOSHIBA SAMSUNG "TS-H943"

I guess I have to buy an Xbox360 and check the top of the drive to see what I have before ordering...

Cheers,
Craig

DO they have any emulation or programs that can run off the 360 Hard drive yet?  I'm waiting until the 360 is as useful as a modded regular xbox.

anywho..there is no actual modchip for 360. they have "drive chips" that goes on the reader and basically same as firmware flash. not easy to install..its hard even for pros. look up some diagrams you will see what I am talking about.  anyway if all fails then you can always send it to me and I will do the work for a fee. make sure your system is made before dec2006. PM me if anything.

I wouldn't even try it...those things are unstable even without mod chips.

The firmware flash doesn't adversely affect the console in any way.  Assuming you can flash it correctly in the first place (which is not very hard), it will be just as reliable (or not reliable) as it would have been otherwise.

Now a chip is much more risky and not really worth it IMO when you can flash the drive with little effort, especially considering that the chips do not give you many other added features besides some recovery options, and possibly multiple firmware choices (not sure on that one, I haven't looked into chips)

if your 360 is going to 3ROD, it'll do it with or without a firmware flash.

I got mine modified, and bought the samsung drive with the right bios flash off of ebay (to rip discs before burning them). Trust me, with 4 kids, originals go south real fast sometimes, I need to back up my purchases.

On a side note, I've heard (which of course makes it true) that people have sent their mod'd xbox's (dvd flashed) and had no problems.  :laugh2:

Amen...  I've modded plenty of XBox 1s and they are cake...  But I looked at the install instructions for 360 mod chips and had NO interest in even trying...
