McNabb says African American QB's are not treated fairly and he has to do "a little extra" to be considered the same.
Get over yourself already DM. I would have expected this sort of thing maybe 15 years ago but not today. The days where African American players are treated differently are over and this was so ridiculous for this guy to say. Stop hiding behind whatever you can and start playing some good ball.
-
What he probably doesn't realize is that the problem isn't his skin color, it's that he plays in Philly, where they boo everyone. They're the fans that nearly killed Santa Claus, aren't they?
-
Tell that crap to Byron Leftwich. He got canned because he was "too white" as a pocket quarterback. ;D
-
I'm sure that had nothing to do with the fact that he runs like a hippo. I guess Garrard is a little blacker than he is.
-
Sports fans of all kinds are hard on their favorite team and star, that's no reason to pull out the race card.
McNabb just made an ass out of himself all over the world with these statements IMO.
-
No, Philly is way harsh compared to other cities. They'll physically abuse their athletes, nevermind booing them. Hell they booed McNabb out of the building the day he was drafted.
-

If he was white, the commentators would label him as a good pocket passer. Since he is black, they say "well, it would be nice if he was a bit more mobile."
Before the Vick era, noone gave a crap how fast a QB ran the 40, as long as they could scramble a bit, read a defense, and be accurate. Nowadays, every black QB is expected to be just like Vick. That works in College ball, but does not translate well to the NFL.
Personally, I don't know why McNabb is bitching. It's probably more along the lines that he is afraid the "New Guy" is going to dethrone him.

I think that is the case, but only because it's true. Black athletes do tend to run faster than white ones.

Except that he is not a good pocket passer. He has a cannon but his accuracy has always been questionable and his delivery point is a foot too low. He runs like Drew Bledsoe so saying "he needs to be more mobile" is fair.

Someone better tell Steve McNair or Randall Cunningham they were doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. Or maybe Garrard needs to run more seeing as how he is only slightly more mobile than Leftwich.
You have to remember that 15 years ago the white guys who ran a lot "ran too much" too. Every week the "experts" would say Steve Grogan's biggest problem was that he wasn't enough of a pocket passer, despite the fact that he was one of the NFL's best ever running QBs and held the NFL record for rushing TDs by a QB. Same with Tarkenton and many other white guys...

McNabb is bitching mostly because he bitches. To be fair to him, he is playing in a very unappreciative city that was against him from day 1 (because he wasn't Ricky Williams... ironic). It was pretty cold when the freakin' NAACP started making public statements about his not being "black enough". Dude has had it from all sides for different things his whole NFL career and now he has no idea what he is supposed to be and to whom.
-
I don't think him playing in Philly and saying that they are harder on players than any other city and that he was not wanted from day one is reason enough to come out of left field with what he said.
Do you think people who grew up in a tough neighborhood and had no money have the right to run around robbing and killing people just because they had it hard? This is a little extreme but i think they both do not work as an argument.
If we all can agree that IF he was playing well that this would have never be said and that fans would then love him, then his comments are a total sell out.

I even heard an analyst about the time he was released say he has a deceptively weak arm for such a big guy. I was just like, WTF?? The dude can throw like 60 yards flat footed. If I was a GM and drafted leftwich in the first round, I'd be damn sure to give him the best offensive line and line coaches money could buy. You've seen what is happening in Pittsburg where leftwich's white counterpart Roethlisberger has been let loose with the passing game.
BTW, his accuracy was always good, it was his throwing motion that kills him. By the time he releases the ball, good defenses have already had over a second to move towards where he is releasing.
-
The only way I can see him having a "weak arm" is what you're describing in the second paragraph - time from hand to ball is too long. Delivery takes way too long so even though the throw is very hard it is getting there late. He does do that. That's not a weak arm, though, it's a bad delivery.
The coaching in Jacksonville has been terrible since Coughlin left. The guy is actually a pretty good head coach but has been saddled with a bad organization around him in NY that undermines him and allows the players to run the asylum way too often.

I agree with tommy and chad, now if you'll excuse me I need to go boil my eyes in bleach water.

And don't you forget it. We're also famous for iceballing other teams as they leave the field.

You are completely wrong. I live outside Philly and I'm a huge Eagles fan. That was 30 fans from a Radio Station that did that. You have no clue.

Wrong once again. Stop watching ESPN highlights. The people are booing him because he is sucking out loud right now. If he wants praise he needs to start winning and playing like the QB he is supposed to be. Trust me on this.
Philly is so passionate about their football. The Eagles is "The Team" for the city. Forget the Phillies, Flyers and Sixers. We just want the Eagles to win.
-
I've been to Eagles games in Philly as well as about 6 other NFL stadiums. The Eagles fans are, and this is by a dramatic margin, the harshest and worst crowd in any pro sports stadium I've ever been in. More drunks, more fights, more booing of injured players, more throwing crap, more of everything that makes such an event dangerous. I couldn't wait to get out of that stadium.
If it was 30 fans that did that, how exactly did they do it every game over the course of many years from most parts of the stadium?
-

And then the Phils go nuts and win the NL East. Go figure. Pretty much a death knell for the Eagles. Gods know we can't have two teams do decent. We'd burn down the city.

It's going to be a nice year in Boston. Pats are dominating as usual, Sox just won the Division, and the Celtics are suddenly and unexpectedly among the conference favorites.
-
Michigan was in the top 5 in the preseason. :laugh2:
Preseason rankings are crap.
-
The Celts just landed one of the games all time greats with plenty left in the tank along with another 7 time all star to go with the annual all star they already had... they have a 3 guy combo now as good as any in the NBA.
I don't care much about basketball but even I can see they are a serious threat now.
-
After seeing McNabb sitting on his ass the whole game after being sacked 12 times by the Giants, McNabb does seem to be right here, he does need to do a lot more. ;D

D0H!
:laugh2:
McNabb is over rated and over paid. He's a slightly better than average QB at best and a injury prone has-been at worst. I'd be surprised to see him in the league in another 3-5...
-
There isn't much any QB can do when they are sacked 12 freakin times. It's not like the guy is Drew Bledsoe sitting there for 8 seconds every play.
Someone needs to tell the OL it's okay to block.

According to the espn story, the Eagles had a backup greenhorn on the line. That doesn't work well against the best pass rush in the league. Strahan and Co. went on record saying they felt bad for the kid, and felt the coaches were to blame for not adjusting and sending help to the kids side.
-
That is absolutely the fault of the coaching staff, given those elements of the story. I would imagine not having their best backfield blocker was a problem, too, with Westbrook out for the game.
