Title: Quick degaussing question.
Post by: Joystick Jerk on September 18, 2007, 01:56:12 am
I just received my degaussing coil, and had a question about it's power. The instructions do say that the coil can erase magnetic media, so is it safe to use this on the monitor when my PC with hard-drive is 2 feet below it? Should I remove the PC from the cab first and then degauss?

I'm 98% sure it will be safe to degauss. By the way, you can also degauss with a simple magnet by simply spinning it while moving close to the magnetically damaged area of the screen.

It is probably safe but if the Hard Drive is not inside a metal case (i.e. Normal PC Chassis) I would remove it just in case as HDD are a lot easier to mess up then people give them credit for.

Its just a peace of mind thing really.

Well, I tried it with the PC still in the cab, and all went well.

Thanks for the info, guys!
