Vertical collapse.  Could be a bunch of things.  The schematics would be handy here.

Honestly, if you have to ask that kind of question, then you don't need to be messing with trying to repair it yourself.
You will need the actual chassis inside repaired.

Is this Gateway monitor one of those Destination types, otherwise called "presentation" monitors? Like a model DL31 or something?

yeah its the dl31 model. I honestly dont know anything about fixing monitors but I was wondering if I can get someone to do it or something. so the chassis is busted but may be fixed ??

maybe I can just get another one like this..they are pretty cheap now a days.

ok I bought another one..exact same model. quick question, does power strip have anything to do with monitors randomly breaking or anything ?? I have the smart strip surge protector. thanks...

also I found something about repairing it. is this kind of work "risky" and do I have to discharge the monitor and what not ? if its too much trouble then I wouldnt even bother..just throw it away. but I am good with soldering and basic electronic..might as well try to fix it  :dunno
