Title: Exciting opportunity: can you design an arcade control panel from scratch?
Post by: kvncooper on September 16, 2007, 11:48:00 am
I am looking for someone to design an arcade style control panel to work with past and present generation gaming systems (PC, xbox, xbox 360, ps1, ps2, ps3).

I am a business owner. This is a great opportunity for the right person.

Thank you.

I have a gameroom in my house.  If you build me an arcade machine, you could benefit by letting me keep it there and play it.  Serious inquiries only, please.

Good for you.  Your parents must be so proud.  Hot dog salesman per chance?

Your topic makes me think of those signs that I see on the telephone poles around town

He didn't mention anything about God or a transferring my money to release his money, so it's not likely.

Besides, where the hell am I going to get Manillas to send over?

It always makes me sad when I do my own name.  When I use my first and last name I get a whopping five hits, and three of those are from a blog we had to make in a technical writing course.  Heck my last name only gets 412 pages.  Anyone else get this few?

RE: Can you design...

OF COURSE I CAN!

Just need some kind of a down payment and I'll move the mouse cursor in Photoshop..

Just send me a PM with all the details (including your bank account info - just for verification purposes, naturally) and I sure get back to you.

Sounds fair?

Dang, if this was a serious inquiry I'm sure he's too scared to talk now.

And if he's too scared to talk, it was not a serious inquiry ...

Oh well, is this the BYOAC site?

I'm not scared, I've been away.

Man some of you guys are being real ---uvulas--- about this.

I'm just looking for some help with CP design for an arcade stick. I see some of the guys on here are pretty darn good at this and have some serious expertise. And my point was, I wouldn't expect someone to do it for free.

I have an engineering team that can build the controller, I just need to give them pointers as to it's functionality e.g. button layout, interface, etc etc.

I'm probably not communicating this very well but there's really no need for some of you to be arsey about a genuine request for help.

If there IS anyone genuine who can help me, PM me or reply here.

Cheers.

If it helps any, I'm just looking for someone to help me design a 2-player arcade controller, with the right button layout, the right number of buttons, whether it needs spinner, tracker etc, how many joysticks, what type of joysticks etc.

There are so many different variations for different people. I'm looking for something to reach the widest audience possible, that will work well with as many classic and current game titles as possible.

Like I said, PM me for more details.

Kevin, the reason we were giving you crap is that you only posted once, gave a very breif request, and followed it with "I'm a business owner".  To most people here, that sounds like spam.

Let's talk what your needs are first.  It appears you want something for commercial purposes since you want to reach everyone.

Results 1 - 10 of about 2,040,000 for john st.clair.

Sorry, but you can do this research for free.

Its what I'm doing right now reading through and researching threads.

Pocket the money you would pay someone. Its hard work, but I feel you would understand your project more by doing your own research.

Good luck ...

Just look through the "examples" section from the main webpage located at www.arcadecontrols.com

You should get a lot of 2 player control panel examples to see what people do.  The most basic design I have seen is two joysticks with 7 buttons each, spinner and trackball.  Good luck

Hey Saint, I had no idea you played for the Chicago Bears. That's crazy!  :o

Also, up at the top of those search results...well apparently someone wrote a whole book about arcade cabinets.  Heh, cool.  :)

Derail!!   I searched for my name using Yahoo, and the first 100 hits were not me. I only get 15 pages when searching my name.

I plugged your needs into my supercomputer, and for good measure, I also made it compatible with the Atari 800, Atari 2600, Intellivision, Fairchild Channel F, BBC Micro, Colecovison and Magnavox Odyssey.

After four full days of an array of 75 4ghz processors working on these requirements, the computer produced this.
It might not be pretty to look at, but the good news is that these can be produced for only $4,000 each.

If all you want are plans, spend ten minutes looking at the examples page.  Most of those guys layed out detailed plans on building a cab including a control panel for free.

You won't need an engineering team, just a carpenter.

And don't complain when you get ragged on for placing a sketchy post with no followup for a long time on a forum specifically for people who build arcade cabs as a hobby.

You keep dropping hints about yourself being some successful businessman with teams of people at your bidding, that will not impress people here.  I don't care what saint does for a living or randy, just that they make badass arcades and arcade products.

It sounds like you don't even want anything from this forum, what you really need is something from these guys, http://www.dreamauthentics.com/index_mainmenu.html

Here is another option that can play a wide variety of games.  Not my cup of tea but it might be yours.

I think you're right about a lot of things.

I DO sound like some ---uvula--- shouting off about being a bad ass businessman with 'teams of people'. But that's not the case at all. I'm 28 yrs old, and have a business idea. I DO have a business but it's in it's early stages and I am not even trading yet.

I rushed the initial message, and you guys have defo got me wrong.

You're also right in that I should do more research and find out for myself.

But, there is a lot of info out there and for someone that has ZERO technical knowledge on the subject, it can be very confusing.

Cheers.
