Really nice. I love the Galagaesque lines and the chrome t-molding.
It's amazing how you whip these things out and all looking so slick. I've had some chrome t-molding myself waiting for years already to be put on a Galaga style cab. One day when I really build one :-[

:laugh2:
Beautiful design with nice lines -- wallmount ?

Nice job! Any pics of the inside? Is that a laptop in there? What kind of controls/interface are you using?

Cheers mate. Galaga is a beautiful cab and certainly inspiration for this little machine. :laugh2:

Thanks Cheffo. Spot on mate. An operator emailed me a couple of weeks back and asked if I could build some machines that would hang on the wall. He thinks he can get these into places that would never consider having a full size arcade machine on their site. I sent this picture to him 2 days later and he said he wants it and some more too.

Thanks Neil. Thats the idea, build and sell. First one, next the world muwhahahahaaaa :laugh2:

Cheers Javeryh. No pics of the inside or construction. This wasn't meant to be an actual announcement, but I couldn't resist doing something for Apollo. LOL. Inside is a cool little micro PC, 2.8ghz, 512mb, 20gb 2.5HDD and a 64meg PCI GFX card. I have never seen such a compact and powerful machine. It runs MAME.081, MALA and every game that has only 2 buttons.
Ok, now for the bad news. This has become a prototype and now only exists as a bare shell and T-molding. I only built it to see what size things needed to be.
-
Heh nice work dude, very very slick.

Go The Warriors and The All Blacks!

iv got 109 dolars to spend. My dad sad it wood be a good deel if I gave you 119 dolars for it. you will sav me time lots for to sell to me. I will PM you for the detals.
Nice look. Good luck on the production run. Be careful, it may turn into a job. Keep in fun.
Are you planning on de-casing a laptop? It's going to be pretty tight in there.
What breed of dog is that? Very cool.

Nice looking machine spacies. :applaud:
What did you use for the skreen? That's not really a plazma is it? If it is, it's kool. Where can I find 1?
At first I thought you were kidding and that it's really a small LCD, but it looks too bright and shiny.
-
Thanks,
Nah its a 15" Dell LCD. LOL. Its surprisingly good.
It have just built another for the operator. I will post some more pics later. Must finish painting my roof. :hissy:

109 dollars... PLASMA SCREEN???
are you joking about the 109 dollars part? :)
... a micro PC as you described runs for more than that by itself... not including a "plasma" screen
I LOVE IT BTW! VERY nice... I just posted some thoughts in one of Knievel's projects (Evolution) and described something similar (as slim as possible!)
I have some scraps of MDF and an old laptop, was thinking of building a smaller thing kind of like this one (smaller screen though).
-
LOL.
I got a good buy in the PC and the $109 was a joke taken from Apollos thread re Project Announcements.
Using LCDs is a great idea. You can make them super thin and a lot lighter than using a CRT.
The bracket holding the LCD in place is hard up against the rear door of the machine so thing are very tight.
To make it look even smaller you cut the shape around the CP, up the side of the bezel and around the marquee. The 15" is a great size but using a 7" or similar you could literally put it in a bag and cycle to you friends.
Build one using that scrap MDF and and laptop and post up some pics.
I built this one in a day from start to finish. 8am to 7pm. The longest part was making sure the wiring was tidy. This place has made me too fusy :banghead: LOL
-
LOL I realized about the 109 "thread" :)
Yep it's a great concept... If the old laptop doesn't work for some reason, ebay is full of 7" LCDs / DVD players for waiting to be "converted (http://cgi.ebay.com/TFT-LCD-7-Color-Monitor-16-9_W0QQitemZ220150107213QQihZ012QQcategoryZ32826QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)"... yumm :)
I am finishing up my "ARTIFACT Game Museum" project FIRST thought! ... ;)
Thanks for posting an awesome project and for the inspiration!

Just added a video of me being a jackass and whacking a bartop together.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmPy8b9LpAw
Enjoy!
Oh and if you are in the Arcade business in the USA and want the plans, show me the money! They may be available ;)
-
Very nice. Large format CNC huh? How many tries did it take to get the parts right?
I like that coin mech. Who makes it?
You should be able to crank out some business with that design.

Yeah, CNC makes for great cabs. I spent a ton of time on the plans to get everything right. I made another change today so now they are good to go. So thats 4 corrections.
Coin Mech? You mean the hole for it in the side? WeiYa make 'em.
I hope to find someone to sell these as they are in the USA. The plans are done. Take them to a CNC place that has the same software and they can cut 3 cabs per sheet of 8x4. Sell them as flat packed cabs or assemble and sell complete.

Way cool video spacies.

Yeah you suck at pictures. I know how it is though. Once your head is down and your ass is up, taking pictures isn't even in the ummmm....eerrrrrr....picture.
Too good Knievel. Mac up a CNC that can do at least 4ft and you would be laughing!
Rock on!

Do you CNC these on a professional machine or did you make one?

I am really loving these little machines but they are sooo frustrating to wire up.
Anyone that has built a bartop will agree.

It's OK, I forgot I asked, but thanks for the answer.

I totally hear ya. Any money saved on material is easily lost in time.

Just a couple of different models to show ya'll that i haven't been slack.

Great looking cabs 8)
-
The color on that Galaga artwork really pop there, awesome mini's dude!
-
Nice looking setups.
I couldn't help but notice the coin slots and safe-lock on the bottom. Are you planning on selling these to bars or something so they can set them up and make money from them? And to clarify, these run MAME correct?
-

Yep you spotted corectly.
My own mini cab runs MAME. (the very first one).
The one with the coin mech is on a site (not mine anymore) runs a dedicated Gallag (bootleg) board with a RGB to VGA adapter for the LCD. I have done another for the same guy with a Donkey Kong PCB.
NONE of my cabs run MAME in a commercial situation. Its just a dumb idea and there is no way it would work. Thanks for your concern and you have a great resource with your site Jako. Cheers.
-
thats a hot little space invaders you got there!,..and i like the pacman one too,..do you still have them?..i would like to buy one from ya,..how much are they?...and what are the dimentions?
-
I build them.
Both of those are sold.
I am gonna cut some more fairly soon though.
Price depends on what you want, flat packed or assembled and empty, assembled with art or complete and playable.
One problem I do see is that I am on the other side of the world. New Zealand. that said, I have shipped a few to Australia with no dramas. Shipping from NZ to Aus was only $70, which is about $55US.
Let me know what you think.
i am doing a Galaxian one later in the week. I will post some pics.
-
That SI is a thing of beauty!
:applaud:

 Cheffo.
I am doing some art based on the big blue Taito SI. That should look cool too.
