That's disturbing.
I never understand why people think it's a good idea to act like they are crying when they are saying something.
I see it (to a lesser extent) even in interviews. "So your cat died twenty years ago?", "Yes, he was ..." person acts like the cat just died minutes ago in his hands and visibly struggles to keep composure, then clicks back to narrative mode, " the best that a cat blah blah blah".

I generally don't like Drama Queens of any sexual persuasion, and when I first saw this video (and one other by Chris Crocker) I was thoroughly annoyed.
But I watched a few others, out of morbid curiosity, and then I ran into the videos where he interviews his Grandmother...and I was fascinated.
The dichotomy between his rural southern Pentecostal Grandmother and his overwhelmingly flamboyant homosexuality is truly mind-boggling to watch. I feel bad for the kid, but I'm glad he seems to have found an outlet to express himself...and it seems like it'll help him escape his little town (Which he calls Real ---smurf--- Island).
I wish him luck. He seems like an interesting character.

His Grandmother is the only guest that ever appears on the "show", which is funny in itself...but I find this particular episode entertaining because he expects his Grandmother to play the role of a "Chris Hater", and she clearly doesn't understand that. He's kind of caught off-guard...and the body language behind his response is what cracks me up the most.
Her acceptance (of him as her grandson), and her inability to pretend, clearly undermines Edna's agenda.

What can I say? I like interesting people that bring a little something different to the table, even if it makes me uncomfortable (and some of his videos do just that). But, hey, it's the spice of life! I spent about 30-40mins on Saturday morning watching a few of the videos with my fiancee'. She got a kick out of them as well.
Btw, the Britney Video is a joke. He's clearly lampooning himself, our star-obsessed culture, and Britney Spears (even though he claims to be her biggest fan).
He's very smart to refrain from "giving up the ghost" as it were, and admit that he's acting; the video is popular because people think it's real. (He's claimed several times that it's the only video, out of ALL of his videos, where he *isn't* acting. However, he has other "performance pieces" were he gets just as upset about things like "organic foods"...)
Even the video with his "brother" is fake. That's really his ex-boyfriend. He's a performance artist, and at 19yrs old, he's done pretty well for himself considering the level of national attention he has gotten. His videos are some of the most viewed videos on both Myspace and YouTube, and he's already inked some sort of deal for the future. There's talk about a reality show, featuring him getting along as a, uh, rather flamboyant gay kid in a small southern town. Which could really raise the level of awareness across the country regarding gay culture and acceptance.*
So, Jouster, I guess your definition of "loser" is different than mine.
P.S. *A reality show would be sort of sadly ironic, really, since his whole desire is to leave that town, even though his life there is a comedy goldmine. It's just not safe for him, it appears.

I watched about a minute of the Brittney thing...and only lasted that long on it because my wife kept telling me that I 'had' to see it.

Self-combusting? Yeah, that's the point...there's an underlying frustration to a lot of his videos. Shemale? Who cares? There's nothing wrong with that, if that is what he feel he needs to do. Most women posting comments on his work are saying they would kill for his eyes, makeup and hair. heh. So he knows what he's doing, apparently.
I think, if you take the time to read the article I posted earlier, you'd see that he's really a profile...and an icon, for gay teenage outsiders everywhere. His acting out is really just another, rather dramatic, form of teenage rebellion. He just happens to be gay, in a VERY judgmental rural town...so his excessive flamboyant nature is born out of that environment.
I always enjoy watching potential cultural shifts taking place. I can't guarantee that this kid is doing that...but he's certainly a lot closer to the front lines than you or I, and I respect that (even if I don't find everything he does to be entertaining, or refined enough as I would like.)

There were idiots before the internet, and there'll be idiots long after it's gone. Either way...I don't see this kid in the same light at 99.999% of the useless "commentary" videos on Youtube. The unique dynamic between him and his Grandma alone is fascinating enough to separate his work out from the rest. BTW, he states that she is in complete denial about his homosexuality, and if you watch the videos she appears in...you can see that she never reciprocates him on any comment that references his gayness.
And you wonder why he's nearly "self-combusting"? Jesus, the person whom loves him the most, and whom he seems to care a great deal for, can't even acknowledge a very important part of him. I can't imagine how frustrating that must be.

I thought the Seth Green thing was painfully bad. The first one either was genuine or seemed genuine which is what made if funny. If they guy had seemed like he was trying to get a laugh by pretending to care about Britney it would have just been lame. Which is what Seth Green's thing was.
