Title: Looking for Defender side art, or detailed photos
Post by: mahuti on May 01, 2003, 01:07:58 am
Hey gang, I'm looking for Defender side art (vector Illustrator type format), or detailed photos so I can trace it in illustrator.  I'd be glad to share the results if I do.

Actually, I'm looking for the side, the front, and the bezel art.

I have some decent control panel art if you would like to trade.

Pics of the current project are here. http://homepage.mac.com/mahuti/Mamecab/PhotoAlbum12.html (http://homepage.mac.com/mahuti/Mamecab/PhotoAlbum12.html)

You do know that Defender is a stencilled game right? So it was just painted with a stencil and a spray can.

New stencils are available if you want to go that route.

Oh crud. Your Defender had side art and you painted over it?

That could have been salvaged. It really would have just been a matter of repainting what was already there.

You may still be able to salvage it if you strip off that black paint you put on it.

If stencils are available, I would like to see where. I have looked at many sites, and haven't found any stencil sets yet. Some of the sites that I found links to that were supposed to have stencil sets for Defender, didn't.

Anyway, the original art was a total loss. It was under several coats of paint, and the cabinet was pretty beat up. At the time I wasn't planning on using it. The more I restored the cab, though, the more it was making sense to return it to original Defender glory. Had I decided to do it from the start, I would have traced the art.

Again, if anyone has links to a site that carries Defender stencils, please contact me.

Don't know of any stencils, but if you have a good graphics file of it, borrow a projector to blow it up onto the side of your cabinet and trace it....

I have an office with a production studio. I'll probably have them print it out at full size, attach it to something, and then router the stencils out.

I made some artwork myself out of pics I had laying around, but the cabinets at angles, so the artwork is skewed.. now I have to see if I can run KPT vector effects efficiently enough to bring those pics back into a flat plane.

Yeah, I tried contacting that guy, with no response. They aren't available at the site he mentions, either. At least, not that I could find.

Hmm, maybe something happened with them and Williams, since I've seen the stencils there, and now they offer no williams products at all.. Odd.

I repro'd my defender using the original outlines on the cabinet itseld, and just looking at pics of cabinets from places like ebay etc.

Good luck with the project, they look great in a gamesroom when they're done!

Thats interesting that ArcadeRenovations took all their Willaims stuff off their site. I wonder if Williams is going after companies selling bootleg repro's like Namco.
