I've done very little reading on Mugen...from what I have read many pan the engine as crap?!   From the few vids i've seen of it, it seems pretty quality to me.

Has anyone set up MUGEN for a cab?  Can you remap the keys to match Jpac button layout?

Looks pretty awesome from the video.

Seriously might have to look at it, looks like a great laugh if you can do that with it :)

its pretty old, the problem isnt so much the engine as much as it was everyone who made a character made it super powerful.  Theres been some really great characters and games made but theres been even more bad ones.

I havent used MUGEN in ages but Im 99% sure you can remap the buttons.

I've never seen anyone with mugen on their machine either.

Anyways, check out this mugen video:

Man, I've vaguely heard of Mugen, and tried to do some research, but can't find much on it.  I'd love to see a fighting game based on all the horror movie icons (Freddy, Jason, Micheal Myers, Chucky, etc.)  Since it would be a logistical nightmare for one company to make that kind of game, maybe this is the answer (if somebody hasn't already done it!)

I have MUGEN running on my cabinet and one problem is that you can not map the space key in MUGEN, which is really annoying.  The version I'm running is over a year old, so its possible they've fixed it in the latest version.

Any suggestion on where to start?   What are good characters to add?   What to avoid?  Etc?

I went looking around today and found this as a startup guide:

Pretty easy to get up and running.

A lot of crap to do...would be nice to be able to pick up a fully functioning build with a crapload of stuff already installed etc...oh well...guess I will mess with it ONE DAY.

just search google for mugen torrents, there used to be a few going around that was all set up and ready to go with a bunch of different characters and stages.  I think one was called the ultimate mugen pack or something like that.  If you have trouble finding one, then search this site for mugen because it was someone else that pointed me to it a while back.

I am also running a build of Mugen on my cabinet.  None of my controls on the ipac are Space, ctrl, etc, so I have no problems with this.

I love it.  In fact I will probably try my Fat Albert against Thor later tonight.

Hey, Hey, Hey, care to send him my way.  After seeing all the various videos on YouTube I am going to give this a try on my cab.  We like fighters at my house.

For those of you who just grabbed Mugen, I highly suggest trying out the Giant Killer Whale character.

I'm not gonna ruin it for you, but its probably the sweetest character ever.
