Title: Your favorite 3-4 Player games?
Post by: MartyNg on September 10, 2007, 04:53:35 pm
I just added 2 xbox controllers to my MAME cabinet to allow 4 players. What 3-4 player games do you guys find to be the most fun? I am having a party this weekend and thought I would throw some 3-4 player games into my "Favorites" menu so people give those a whirl rather than everyone fighting to get in on the 1-2 player games. :)

So far, I'm thinking about:

Gauntlet
Simpsons
TMNT
D&D Tower of Doom
NBA Jam
Rampage

Thanks!

The 4 player games that see the most action at my house at parties are the turn based 4 player games games like Shuffleshot, World Class Bowling, and Shuuz.  And Gauntlet.  This is of course assuming you aren't having a party for gamer nerds.  ;D

doesn't help unless you have 4 spinners/dials/paddle controls but Warlords 4 player is good fun!

NFL Blitz is amazingly fun with 4 players, still really fun with 2 players, and utterly boring as a 1 player game.

I'm told that very modern, beefy machines can actually run it realtime in MAME, now.

Sound design choice I think Marty. I've noticed that 95% of the time its either single player or one player at a time. Those just seem to be the games people prefer but then someone always says "Hey! Gauntlet!" So I'm currently redesigning my CP as a two player panel (SF2ish layout) but I'm building in a USB hub and keeping 2 gamepads handy for the occasional 4 player game. To my mind that's a much more elegant solution than a frankenpanel the size of the USS Nimitz.

For what its worth, Gauntlet suddenly becomes a lot less fun when you can just hammer a credit button the whole time anyway.

It's not in mame, but Guilty Gear Isuka is great fun.

There's a pc version out there.

If you have a 4 player cab then you simply MUST put Sega Virtua Tennis on  it (PC game, not mame).  It rocks!

config can be tricky but it is worth it!

What, no love for Track and Field/HyperSports?  Although they are not 4 player simultaneous.

Cyberball TE - I've thought of making a dedicated 2 screen cabinet for head to head play.

Rampart
Sunset Riders
NBA Jam

Keeping it short to games I remember being fun back in the day:

Top 3:
Gauntlet
Cyberball
Sega Daytona

Also fun:
Demolition Derby

I remember dumping cash into but not sure if they were all that FUN:
Hot Rod
Gain Ground
Quartet

And of course the infinite number of scrolling beat-em-ups, but none of those are that great considering you just mash buttons and continue ad-nauseum...
