My wife's cousin had an old CRT rear projection television that they weren't using anymore. They offered to let us have it and I went over to pick it up yesterday. it is now in my basement and seems to be working OK.
It is a Toshiba TP-4688J. According to the label on the back, it was made in August of 1990.
I have not been able to find much information on the internet for this TV. I did find some generic information at http://www.fixyourowntv.com/ that will probably help.
The picture is reasonably bright and I was able to adjust the convergence from the front panel. There is some fuzziness in the corners, especially the lower right corner. Hopefully I can improve that when I get in and manually adjust the projectors.
The biggest annoyance is that it defaults to antenna if you turn it off and back on again. I have everything routed through an automatic input selector so I want it to stay on Video1.
If anyone can point me to some more info, I'd appreciate it.

go under the options menu and set it for cable instead of antenna and it should be alright on power up/down afterwards.

It does not have an actual menu button.
On the set is a function button. Pressing it multiple times cycles through "Contrast", "Bright", "Sharp", "Color", "Tint", "Bass", "Treble", and "Balance" controls.
The remote has Audio and Pict buttons to access the same settings.
The set and remote have buttons for TV/Video, TV/CATV, MTS, RF1/2.
The set also has a button to bring up the convergence cross hair.
That is about it.
I did find two sequences on the internet to try to bring up service menus, but I haven't had a chance to try them yet.

Neither one of the remote key sequences work on this particular Toshiba television.

I'll have to see what I find when I open the back.

Opening the back did not get me very far. It does provide access to the focus adjusters for the lenses, but I will wait until I can have an assistant to watch the image while I try to adjust the lenses.
I did get the lenses and mirror cleaned off. It does have an actual mirror and not a sheet of mylar. The picture looked better after that.
Removing the front speaker panel, reveals another access panel. This panel has the convergence board on it. I did not count the all, but there are a lot of pots on it for adjusting the CRTs.
There are three that are labeled red focus, green focus, and blue focus.
There is one bank the has columns for Red Vert, Blue Vert, Red Horiz, Blue Horiz.
The rows are for Tilt, Bow, Pin, Key, S Key, Size, and some other I can't think of right now.
There are a few more that are for some of the green settings.
Making sure that I noted the original position before I adjusted any settings, I was able to improve the image a lot. Mostly by adjusting the tilt, bow and in on the blue. red need a little adjusting as well.
I will try to take some pictures over the weekend.
