Title: How can you tell the difference between old Midway 49 and new Happ 49?
Post by: gatordad on September 08, 2007, 09:30:10 pm
I have 4 Midway 49 way joys (don't know if its happ or old Midway) that I just cleaned up with perfect grommets no tears or anything.
I measured the shaft with a ruler and ithey are approx 1/4 in wide.
How can you tell if this is the new Happ 49 way or the older Midway one.
Is there any replacement sticks (balltops) for the ones with 1/4 in shaft or any other way to get balltops on one?
Thanks
GD

The Midway shaft diameter is larger than the Happ.  I don't have the measurements off hand.  They look identical, but the shaft diameter is the difference.

There was a thread on this within the last month or two if you go searching.  I think what it came down to is that:

There are replacement shafts for the Happ variety at GGG.  If you've got the Midway there are no replacement shafts available.  In that case you can try swapping out the actuator and grommet in order to fit the GGG handles.
