Title: Help: Asteroid Deluxe. Stopped working after I opened the door
Post by: Jetto Funk on September 06, 2007, 04:08:41 pm
So I blew a fuse in my cab a while back. Well I just got unlazy today and fixed the fuse and was playing with the cab for a good portion of the day. Well I opened the coin door and the machine shut off. No big deal I thought, there's the on off switch that is held by the door. I cleaned up the machine a bit than shut the door and went to turn it on and nothing.. Not even a sound or a pop. I checked all the fuses and they look fine, I'm stumped. I pressed the button manually and tried to reset it a few times but nothing.
Any ideas?

Switch died?  Try bypassing it?

Check the slam switch and verify the contacts aren't touching? (If Asteroids has one)

Hmm, just cut the wires and spin them together?
Not really a slam switch but same principal

I checked all the fuses and they look fine,

They look fine or they test fine. You can't trust a visual inspection.

Have you tried pulling the interlock switch out (e.g. open the door and pull the plunger instead of pushing it) ?

Stroids Deluxe has TWO white safety interlock switches wired in series with each other. Opening either one kills all power to the machine. One is located by the coin door hinge (operated by the coin door being closed) and the other is located at the back door of the cabinet (operated by the back door being closed).

Let me say this again:

Both switches must be activated at the same time or the machine will not get power.

the back one is pre rigged already, doesn't need to have the back on to work. I'll rig the front one like that too. I haven't tested them, I'll get on that tonight
Thanks

You shouldn't have to "rig" anything..... PULL the switch OUT as mentioned earler and see if the machine works. (check both switches)

Does the marquee and blacklight come on?

the marquee never turned on, didn't realize there was a backlight

Tried pulling the switched and wiring them up together as well, nada...
I replaced the fuses and nada as well.
What else could it be?
Let's recap:

Machine was on and doing it's thing.
I opened coin door and machine turns off.
I close coin door and machine stays off.

Check:
Fuses
Switches

Stumped :\

So the primary symptom is absolutely no power to the cab at all (no power to marquee, blacklight, monitor, etc.) ?

Do you have a multimeter ?

Fixed it, it was a little bit of everything.
The button had a short in it that was causing the fuses to blow. Fixed the wiring and fixed the fuses, all is well now
Thanks for the help guys!
Now time to fix Tron, Mace and the Mame machine

Don't forget to get the Asteroids Multikit when it comes out.
