Title: Setting Happ Supers to 8-Way?
Post by: pboreham on September 05, 2007, 04:23:23 am
Following on from my discussion at the weekend about installing Happ Supers...

They are now installed ok - but now running in MAME (still good old '1942'), the plane will only fly in 4 directions.

In my previous thread, somebody mentioned you set either 4-way or 8-way with the plastic 'cone' that attaches to the base of the shaft. Of course, I can simply try this later and swapping it around, but I'm at work at the moment and its bugging me!!!  >:D

Soooo... if somebody could let me know from looking down at the control (ie, looking down at the underneath where the microswitches are), what end of the cone should be closest to me for 8-way - the fat end, or thin end?

Thanks!

The cone is wider on one side than the other. The wide side is 8-way, the narrower side is 4-way. I don't remember which you put it on because I can't recall how far it slides down, but just make sure the wide side of the cone is hitting the microswitch levers and you'll be fine.

Cheers JJ - thats what I thought - and I'm sure i have the wide side closest to the switches, but its definately only working as a 4-way.

I'll take a closer look tonight...

I just checked out my CP. This is what it looks like from a side view:

The wide part is up near the switches, and the narrow is pointing down. If that's how you have it set up and it's still not registering the diagonals, physically check out the switches and see if both the switches required for a particular diagonal are being pushed properly. In particular, if you note the sound of a microswitch being pressed, and then released, and then listen for two switches being pressed before one releases on the diagonals, you should get a good idea if they are being pressed properly.

If they aren't, make sure your stick can travel far enough to hit the switches. Make sure the hole in your CP is wide enough so that the stick doesn't hit the wood before it completes its travel. Also double check your installation diagrams that came with the sticks to make sure all the other parts are in place. If after that everything seems like it should be working, you can always fiddle with the little levers that hit the microswitches. Sometimes bending them a little inward or outward will give them them the right spacing to hit the diagonals properly.

Hi JJ - yep, changed it around dinner time and the little 1942 plane now moves (slowly - another story!) in all directions.

Thanks for the advice!  :applaud:
