Title: power button for cabinet
Post by: BORIStheBLADE on September 01, 2007, 02:09:00 am
I don't want to use a regular arcade button as the power button. Does anyone know were I can find a computer power button?

Thanks

Maybe you could illuminate us as to why you don't want to use an arcade pushbutton. A computers soft-switch and arcade pushbutton are virtually the same thing only in different packages. And since I would assume you want the power button out of the way, what does it matter what it looks like.

Button button, Who's got the button?

Any momentary on button will do...... so any place that sells switches will have heaps to choose from.

They will have 2 pins..... wire these to the mobo where the power switch for your PC went.

Just be careful to wire it around the right way or you will fry your whole setup!!

Well not really. Its basically idiot proof ya cant muck anything up

Well I do know that a button is a button, but I wanted something that would stand out saying "power" without labeling it. Plus people tend to like messing with buttons and I figured if it was something other than a arcade button I should be fine.
I haven't decided if I'm going to hide it or not, so I'm planning for everything.

Hello Boris,

I understand what you mean.  The regular arcade pushbutton will work, but you want something that look better...

As MrMojo said, your computer already has one.  If it is illuminated, you could just dissassemble it and mount it where you want.

In my case, I got a yellow illuminated switch from ebay
Do a search on "illuminated switch".  You can get those switches for about 13$ including shipping (see pic)

Mountain in its "Mountain's MAME project" also used a similar button.

bfauska found an online retailer for about 20$

Those buttons are nice, but almost willing to just use a regular arcade button for the price. For $1.50 and find a way to label it.

with a bit of patience and some adhesive vinyl, you could cut the "power logo" and stick it to your regular or illuminated pushbutton...
