these old consoles are fun (",) . im not tired of the N64 yet, but i've got a collecting itch now. i've actually bought 3 or 4 games for the mega drive already but i don't own a console! to pace myself (i think i have 22 games for the N64 now!) i'm only buying complete games with case and manual and the right price. ideally i'd like a good condition console in a box (they seem to be less grubby then) otherwise if it's a bit beat up it's gotta be really cheap! how much would you pay for near mint in box or beat up but working with at at least one controller?
by the way, if you have a mega drive and you haven't tried it, check out comix zone. it's the reason i'm getting one!
oh, and is this worth getting? it looks cool:

i bid 31 and missed out. like i say, im taking it very easy for this console
-
I think you will have a really hard time finding most of these old consoles with boxes in good condition if you could even find them at all. That goes for the games too.
Sometimes if you want it bad enough you just have to take it how you find it and not be so picky about condition, but i agree it is nice to find things how they came from the factory.
-
i hear what you are saying. this one (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=120152972751&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=002) went for 20 bucks. i probably could have had it but im a sniper and i left it too long :banghead:
this one (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280144678833&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=018) was mint and went for 132 bucks which is out of my interest range...
so there are definitely nice boxed ones available all the time. but its hard to tell what a reasonable price would be. the games are a different matter. there are heaps of them, complete in the case. most under 20 bucks and some under 10. i know what a reasonable price is for the popular games at least. probably why ive already bought some before i bought a console (",)

you can get a sega collection game for PSP with comix zone on it, justa thought

that would entail buying a psp ;) besides, i already play the perfectly emulated comix zone on my gp2x...
-
The other thing is make sure you will actually play these console and games you're buying. I know how it is getting wrapped up in buying and collecting many things and then finally when you sit back and realize all that you have done you also realize that maybe i wasted alot of money on collecting stuff just for the sake if collecting stuff and you really did not want it. Point is, collecting stuff is fine and fun but make sure you really want what it is you're getting.
One day you will sit back and say to yourself, man, i really went alittle crazy there for a little bit. ;D

well yeah, I didn't knwo what all you had, I actually got the sega collection for Shinobi III and comix zone

Heh. I have a NOS unopened Genesis sitting about 15 feet from me.
Go to yard sales... that where the best buys on old console stuff is. Not sure how it is down there but when I was still going around I could pick up 3 Genesis a day at a buck or two apiece.
-
I don't know how it works elsewhere in the country but I've had terrible luck at yard sales (we usually refer to them as garage sales round these parts). I have had decent luck at thrift stores. Got a 32X (with Sega Genesis II in box, $15ish), and a SegaCD (With Sega Genesis II in box, $15ish). I can't say that the boxes were in particularly good condition, and they came without manuals, but all the equipment worked.

i got one from the flea market for $20 a couple months ago

hehe. well, this happens to me when i'm between girlfriends. and this time around i think it's going to be a long time between... i believe teh wimmings call it 'retail therapy' ;D
but hey, i could collect teaspoons. but then what? spend a nice weekend polishing them? these old consoles are more fun to collect for seeing as how you can play them. with the N64 i mostly went with the consensus of what the good games were. same with the sega. im mostly going by a feature by retrogamer. i probably wont go as crazy with the carts as i did with the N64. but i MAY go crazy with the console:
brand spankers (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170144783283&ih=007&category=3653&ssPageName=STORE:PROMOBOX:NEWLIST#LIST)
ive emailed a couple of previous buyers of this from the same dude and they are quite happy with the machine. a little pricey but hey, i have a new, higher paying job (",)
it ends in seven hours. probably by the time someone here says 'dont buy it! itrs crap because...', it will be too late! well, you only live once...

she is also selling 'adventures of batman and robin'. anyone know if thats any good? i suspect its not but but seeing as how the freight is so low on this seller...
you guys have been good so far with game choices on the N64. so hopefully that is true with the mega drive!

I was helping a friend move and he ended up giving me his genesis. Lucked out there I guess. I never really was into the genesis, I know Sega made great sports games. He also had the Sega Nomad, but he won't part with that......:P

If he were local I'd send him a stack of the damn things. I have 5-6 working ones sitting on a table I can't figure out what to do with.
-
Chad would you hook anyone up or just danny? :)
-
I wasn't going to get into it but I owe his mom a favor.
-
Good Genesis games:
Gunstar heroes
Contra Hard Corps
NHL hockey '93,'94,'95
Vectorman
That's the ones I could come up with off the top of my head.
-
On the Sega CD you have Lunar, Vay, FIFA, and Dark Wizard that I remember as the top games.

mum says you and her are even. you're carpets were filthy and she just couldn't stand by and not vacuum them...
-
Wasn't she surprised when she saw I had no carpets under everything. It's all hardwood.
-
I wish i had Gunstar heroes :'(
I forget which was better but toy story was fun (pretty sure the gen version) and there was a mickey mouse game that i liked.
-
I've got a Genesis laying around. It includes a 32X add on. I don't have the original box, but it is in very good shape.
Shipping to OZ would be really expensive.
Shadow Squadron and Virtua Racing are the only two 32X games that I thought were really good.
Regular Genesis games that I thought were good were Ballz, 7Up Cool Spot, Madden Football (I think I have the '94 ). There are 1 or two others that I have that I thought were good, but I can't think of them right now. It's been a long time since I have played any of them. I really should add a Genesis emu to my cab.
I actually play with my original Oddyssey2 more often.
-
thanks for the offer, erik (",) . but yes, shipping will be a killer from the US. and there a few for sale here in oz. ranging from $4.95 to over $100. i just i couldnt tell initially what would be a reasonable price to pay. my initial question has been answered by myself though, seeing as how i've bought a brand new one from SE asia! completely threw out my cautious budget. will probably be a few weeks before i see the machine though...
