Title: does the ipac power the buttons and joysticks??
Post by: robot8319 on August 31, 2007, 06:20:12 am
i know this may sound stupid but i am building another mame cab soon and need to know if the ipac supplys power to the joysticks and buttons like say i press a button and it works and please tell me jamma harness is needed an powersupply.

i am ordering 2 joysticks and 15 buttons from lizard lick and plan on picking them up sometime tommorow.

so basically all i would need is 18awg wires and the ipac and the buttons and joysticks and then i am good to go as far action wise right?

If you are going with a pc and mame, you do not need the arcade power supply any more. And technically, your controls are not "powered". Yes, the Ipac supplies the signal voltage and that is how the controls do their thing.

Nope, the IPAC is designed so that you hook it up and then you can press a button, and it will make sure that absolutely nothing happens. Ultimarc guarantees the IPAC will nullify any and all attempts to register inputs with the pc.

Seriously though, yeah, all you need is your controls and the IPAC. The controls in a sense don't need to be "powered". Pressing a button simply completes a circuit which tells the IPAC that a button has been pressed.

Another MAME cab?

I'm a little confused how you can build a prior MAME cab and not ask this question once before?

Did you buy illuminated buttons or something?

From what I can see of past posts the first cab may not have been completed as everything seems to have been sold off.
