Title: Better way to identify Good / Bad Traders?
Post by: Dervacumen on August 29, 2007, 02:32:56 pm
I have trouble going through such a long thread to see if someone is on there or not.

There must be a better way.
I don't necessarily think adding a good trader / bad trader section to the wiki is the way to go though.

I don't know what is available with this forum software.  Any ideas?

You can type the persons name in and limit your search to the BST forum. That is about as good as it gets.

Na, that's as good as we got, not as good as it gets :).

Trader Feedback System:    http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=346 (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=346)

Gives ebay-like feedback to the SMF forums here.

Cool deal :).  I've not done mods on a SMF before, but have done extensive mods for Invision Power & vBulletin, but it looks easier on this software to install 'em.

That was not only quick but it's pretty nifty.  It's would be a welcome addition to the forum if you could make it happen.

Maybe you guys could aleast break that thread down to one long post with everyone's name on that one post.

Kinda like

Tommy +5
Shardian +5
Chad +5

Or whatever it is, representing all the positive posts about the person.

There's a mod like that on another forum I frequent (www.rcgroups.com), running vBulletin, so I figured there'd be one for the software here.  Took a look at the main SMF modding site, did some searches, and there it was :).

There's a TON of other mods on there as well, but I know how it gets running a bunch of them on a system, every main software upgrade you have to reapply the mods you've used, make sure they are compatible, etc...  A ton of work goes into the back end of some of these systems...

over at 2gnt.com  we have 2 sub forums in the classified section, one for good one for bad. you post a thread with the buyer/sellers name in the appropriate forum then in the body of the post you give details. its not perfect and its heavily moderated, but it works.

They do the same thing on the Shoryuken (http://forums.shoryuken.com/forumdisplay.php?f=225) forums.  Only it is a single forum for user feedback.

That's a quick way to do it.  I don't know how much monitoring it would require.  I doubt the integrity of the boards would be too much of an issue.  Maybe you could suggest simple formatting.  For example a post  title in the Bad Traders Child Board might be titled with just the trader's name: Dervacumen.  Then the text of the message could be an explanation.  This format would also be a good way to keep the argument, er, conflict resolution between the two parties involved in one place.

Are there enough BAD sellers to warrant the mod?   I can only remember one of past note the notorious HARP@L.   If you frequent BYOAC for a whiile you get to know the regulars and the major sellers in Buy and Sell are well known and respected.   Just because someone only offers to sell somehthing infrequently would give a low rating to someone who we all know an trust if it is by transaction.  Plus there are people who have great trust such as Bob Roberts who are not even on this board as far as I know.

I guess I have to say that common sense  should prevail when you make a purchase arrangement.   We all know a vendor that gets slammed more then most but makes what is a very quality product.  If you want to purchase from someone who is on their 5th post then go ahead and no system is really going to help out here.

If someone is really BAD it pops up quite fast and if someone is good we all seem to know it already.
