I returned from a roadtrip 'sown south' and these guys followed me home.

"Gee Mom, can I keep em?"
Scored the SCI cab from rob1234 and the R-Type from Arcadiac.
Both were playable when I picked em up, however the ride back was a little less than comforting to them. They are both up and running again. Not sure they are worth doing full scale restorations to. I'll clean em up and add them to the clubhouse gameroom.
Notice the SCI cab (with the homemade marquee) is missing the front glass panel. That was my fault, I opened the control panel area and the glass slipped down about 1/2 inch before making a light 'tink' sound, followed by a shower of tinted glass nuggets.
It's also got a weird video display problem, sort of like the jail bars issue but not quite the same. I'll get some pictures and make a proper post about it soon.
Mostly just wanted to hit post #400. Wooooo!

Would love an Rtype cab, very nice find and it looks in good condition too. Definetly worthy of some TLC to add them to your collection. :)

Is an R-type cabinet different than a DK nintendo cabinet? As in, is it 9/16"? Where would you find replacement T-molding?
-
If I found an R-Type cabinet I would definitely just clean it up and add it to the collection. That was probably my favorite game growing up.

I'm impressed with the condition of both, that Rtype looks amazing. more shots of the CP please =)
may I ask what they cost you?
-
Take the plunge and restore the R-Type. Nice score.

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the comments already.
I've been cleaning them up a little bit, trying not to do any more damage, etc.
The SCI one needs quite a bit of work, the back side of the cabinet is pretty messed up, been 'fixed' a few times with drywall screws, etc.
The R-Type is pretty solid but does have some corner/edge damage. I changed out the buttons on the CP. Kept the originals in case it's important to someone.
I am told that I am only the 3rd owner of this cabinet.
Leapinlew, I have no clue. Why not send over your DK cab and I'll do an extensive comparison?
Malenko, if I told you, you'd just
Ha ha!
But here is another shot with the CP in it.

Here is a picture of a sample of the original R-Type buttons/switches.
They all functioned fine, I just swapped them out because I had brand new in the bag Happs stuff sitting there, and I'd like the colors to match.
As I mentioned before, there is some damage to the wood.
Nothing too serious. See the other picture for details.
Side art has a few nicks in it, the left side upper corner has the clear coat peeled back a little.
Also the monitor had been repaired before, looks like it had a hole burned through the board at one point. It's working fine though, there is a little burn in of the logo, but it's very minor.

Picture of the SCI cab's backside...
I ripped the 'handle' board off right away, first time I tried to move the cabinet it ripped off into my hands. (Reattached it with longer screws for photo)
Overall the cab is kind of loose and wobbly.
-
Side art wasn't too bad, mostly just the the lower portion.
The other side is a little more funky, faded or something.
I'll try to get another photo if there is any interest.
Biggest concern ATM is the quasi jail bars appearing on the display.
I don't think it's a cap kit problem. . .
