Title: Power supply question [not power switch related]
Post by: Avrus on August 24, 2007, 11:29:16 pm
So I purchased a power supply from Happ because I didn't want to mess around with an ATX power supply and I didn't have an old AT power supply kicking around.  I have many years of computer experience but the power supply I received has 9 pin molex connections on it and only one 4 pin molex connector.

The intent was to use the PC power supply for just the PC and related components and then seperate out the cabinet fans, marquee light and coin door lights to a seperate power supply just for the cabinet.

So other than cutting the connector off and splicing in the various 12v and ground, anyone have any suggestions?  Is anyone actually using these power supplies in the manner I'm describing?

That connector is a Molex 0.93" Pin/Socket connector.  Radio Shack carries the series in some stores.   Fry's has them in I think all stores. You could get a mating connector and use that.  AMP also has a compatible line of connectors, though I'm not sure where to buy them at retail.  These are of course also available online.

So is there a hydra available to break it out into 4 pin connectors or am I going to be rigging up my own solution with a generic male plug?

I'm not aware of anything to break it out to other connectors.  You may be able to find a harness with unterminated wires pre-crimped, however.  Check Bob Roberts, Jammaboards, etc.  If you buy the mating connector from a store, you will get just that: the connector (and the contacts that go in it) - you'd have to attach wire yourself.

So just connect up a 9 pin male molex with pins, wire the pins for the 12v and grounds out and crimp / screw cap that for the various power I require or to 4 pin molex connectors?

Well I have some stuff on backorder from Happ currently so maybe I should just grab a couple of:
